Appel à projets Praxis Art Actuel
Laboratoire-résidence Bloc 8
– 2014

The Li Ka Shing (Canada) Foundation and the University of Alberta have announced a $200,000 commission for a work of public art to be situated on the university’s campus in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
In 2010, the University of Alberta was the recipient of a generous gift of $28 million from the Li Ka Shing (Canada) Foundation. Along with funding from the Government of Alberta, the donation—the largest cash gift in the university’s history—led to the establishment of the Li Ka Shing Institute of Virology, housed within the Li Ka Shing Centre for Health Research Innovation.
The University of Alberta/Li Ka Shing Foundation Public Art Commission will result in the creation of a major work of public art to enhance the Li Ka Shing Centre for Health Research Innovation. The building, located at the corner of 87 Ave. and 112 St., is designed as a flexible space that supports current and future research and teaching needs.
Stage One of the $200,000 commission project is an international call to artists to submit a Request for Qualifications (RFQ). The deadline for RFQ submissions is December 17, 2012. UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Seeking video work for a curated project by Suzanne Carte & Su-Ying Lee (Under New Management) taking place in March 2013 at ODD Gallery at the Klondike Institute of Art and Culture (KIAC) in Dawson City, Yukon. The exhibition will take the form of a video rental store that carries artists’ videos. The project employs the characteristics of the retail environment to connect to the local community while, challenging the gallery’s role as an intermediary that delimits the viewer’s direct access to art. “Customers” are asked to pay what they wish, which can be interpreted as cash, a non-monetary exchange, critique, or no remuneration. This facet is in place as an experimental form of engagement, where artists have the opportunity to receive responses directly from viewers. In turn, the viewer has an uncommon channel to the artist. In addition to payment, rental and return are also on an honour-system basis therefore removing barriers that exist due to membership, deposit, and return policies at commercial ventures.

Background
This is the second iteration of the Under New Management video “rental” store. As part of a larger exhibition/project, the first store took place in Toronto from August 3-14, 2010. This method of disseminating video art to the general public was exceptionally popular during its short run.

For information about the project visit: http://www.mediafieldsjournal.org/storage/issue1/Hogan/Media-Fields-1-Hogan.pdf

http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/article/839799–queen-west-has-a-surprise-in-store

Terms
Your DVD will be loaned to anyone who wishes to borrow it. Customers will pay whatever they wish and any fee collected for your work will be sent to you. The video will be archived in the Video Store Rental collection for future exhibitions.

Submissions
We are accepting work on DVD immediately. Feel free to send several titles.

-Any duration, style and genre
-Package your submission in a 191 x 135 mm DVD case
-Front of case: label image, artist’s name and title
-Back of case: synopsis and duration and any other info you wish to include i.e. short bio, website
-Work will be loaned to the general public. It is crucial that you note if your title contains any explicit language, nudity, sex or violence. This will not prevent your title from being selected for inclusion. This information will be used to make our « customers » aware of content

ANX.ARS

The ANX.ARS project takes place on the relatively un-monitored bandwith of the internet, and like the internet, exists and thrives in a relatively fluid state. Hosted via Pratt Institutes internet radio service, the program is as an open platform consisting of primarily crowdsourced material; selected by myself as host, and curated into specific hour long selections which will be recorded and archived at http://iancswanson.com/anxdotars.html
It is an opportunity to provide a platform for what are otherwise often seen as non-concrete artistic practices while simultaneously creating a new cumulative and aggregate audio work. The programs operation depends upon the material provided via digital submissions.

As host I facilitate new contexts through networked interdependence.

Sprint and Starting Blocks 2013 – call for submissions

Submissions are now invited to take part in Camden People’s Theatre’s SPRINT FESTIVAL 2013.

Sprint is an annual festival of unusual and adventurous theatre and live art from the most exciting new artists and companies in the UK and worldwide.

Applications are now open for our 2013 festival, to be held March 1 to 24 (tbc). Ideally, proposals will be for work that is finished by March 2013, but we will also consider works-in-progress, ‘scratch’ performances and on-site artist development (see Starting Blocks). Work can take place inside and outside CPT, in the streets, on the waterways and byways beyond the theatre’s doors – as long as the company/artist has a realistic idea of how such a project might be achieved. Work can also happen in the virtual world and in the audience’s imagination. The work can be a piece for a large audience, or a one-to-one performance – or anything in between. We are particularly keen to receive submissions for off-site work.

Sprint Festival runs for three weeks in March (please check website for schedule updates or join CPT mailing list). Last year’s Sprint programme featured 124 performances from 36 artists/companies, including NIE, Kazuko Hohki, Dancing Brick, Curious Directive – and many more. Click HERE for full details.

Since its inception in 1997 as a showcase for ‘physical, visual and unusual theatre’, Sprint has continued to grow in scope and reputation. Companies who found early success at Sprint include Unlimited Theatre, Cartoon de Salvo, Metro-Boulot-Dodo, Fevered Sleep, Shunt, and more recently, Idle Motion, Plasticine Men, Mamoru Iriguchi, Paper Birds, Stoke Newington International Airport and Search Party.

Click here for Sprint application form.

STARTING BLOCKS

Applications are also invited for Starting Blocks 2013, a creative community for developing new theatre work that runs alongside Sprint.

Starting Blocks offers the opportunity to develop new theatre work with the support of Camden People’s Theatre, as part of a peer support network that encourages collaboration and engagement between participating artists. Over ten weeks, the selected artists will meet weekly to share practice, ideas and their developing works. They will also be given space to develop their particular project and practice. The scheme runs from January to March 2013, allowing time for the participants to develop work, or work-in-progress, to be shown at CPT’s prestigious Sprint festival in March.

We are particularly keen to receive applications from solo artists.

Applicants can apply with just an idea, or with an idea that has received early-stage development, and now needs space, structure, and peer support to help bring it to life. Projects that have already been developed at another organisation, or with the financial support of a funding body, will not be considered.

The scheme will be overseen by CPT director Brian Logan, who alongside CPT staff will select participants by application form and interview from an open call for submissions.

Click here for Starting Blocks application form.

The deadline for Sprint and Starting Blocks applications is Fri 23 November

Beers.Lambert Award for Emerging Art
7th June 2012 – 31st December 2012

Beers.Lambert Contemporary announces a new award for emerging artists worldwide: the First Annual Beers.Lambert Award for Emerging Art is a prize awarded to up to 8 emerging, contemporary artists working in all disciplines and open to artists internationally.

As one of its primary operating initiatives, Beers.Lambert’s artist-support program has always believed in nurturing emerging artists and celebrating excellence in emerging contemporary art. Now, our newest initiative coincides with our gallery relocation to its brand new space on Baldwin Street at Old Street in the heart of the East London. The Beers.Lambert Award for Emerging Artwas born and devised as a method to recognize outstanding achievement and/or promise in the arts and to present emerging artists with a unique exhibition opportunity in London, and offer international exposure to under-represented artists to help them succeed.

The award is fully intended to acknowledge and celebrate an outstanding group of artists in each of the primary artistic disciplines by offering (monetary and non-monetary) recognition for international emerging artists who can be seen as shaping the direction of contemporary art through commitment and dedication to their artistic practice. The purpose of the award is to recognize progression, innovation, excellence and ‘general talent’ in 4 predominating artistic fields: painting and drawing; photography and 2D; sculpture, installation and 3d; as well as a final multidisciplinary category that acknowledges video art, performance, new-media, and other formsthat may defy classification. By way of open call and juried selection, the award will be given to two artists working within each discipline – one primary and one secondary recipient will be awarded in each category to a total of 8 awarded artists – who not only meet, but excel within the given criteria. The 4 primary award recipients will each receive $1,000USD and the 4 secondary award recipients will each receive $250USD. Furthermore, all 8 of the awarded artists (primary and secondary) works will be exhibited at Beers.Lambert Contemporary in 2013, and their work will be featured extensively on our website and other such promotional material.  One or more of the awarded artists will be offered a solo exhibition with the gallery in the Fall 2013 exhibition programme.

* To get involved in the futures of promising emerging artists and become a sponsor or donor for this award, please contact info [arobas] beerslambert [point] com

Beam Camp Seeks Proposals for Spectacular Projects

Worldwide call seeks ideas from Engineers, Architects, Designers, Sculptors, Builders, Agriculturists, Videographers, Technologists, Artists and Makers of all kinds

Past Project Images: http://flic.kr/s/aHsj5LFz65
Proposal Submission Info and Form: http://www.beamcamp.com/project-proposal/

Beam Camp, the summer camp for the fine and manual arts, technology and collaboration, today opens its annual international search to find its 2013 Beam Projects. The large-scale collaborative projects are realized by Beam campers, aged 7-17, and staff at the camp’s 106-acre facility in Strafford, New Hampshire.

Projects are budgeted at $10,000. Winning designers receive a $2,500 honorarium and are invited to visit camp during the project’s production.

Proposals can be submitted on the Beam Camp website until Friday, January 11, 2013 with Semi-finalists announced on January 18, 2013. (submission page: http://www.beamcamp.com/project-proposal/).

Beam offers these prompts for proposals:
– Project should be big and ambitious and result in a unique and spectacular product.
– Project Master should have experience in executing the kind of idea proposed.
– Projects should take advantage of Beam’s outdoor space and rural location, but need not be about camp, children or nature.

Beam Camp Co-Director Danny Kahn says of the Project, “it’s a chance for kids to walk around inside the mind of a designer of big things and systems. The kids get to learn project-specific making skills and practice the tools of collaboration, and more importantly see how to bring to life a passionately held and expertly developed idea.”

The Beam Projects for summer 2012 reflected Beam’s core emphasis on cultivating creative thinking and applied collaborative work. In “Creature Quake,” Beam Project 2012.1, landscape architects Rachel Kunreuther and Douglas Stookey’s proposal, Beam campers and staff constructed enormous creatures in earth, sky and lake. In “Navigating Dreams,” Beam Project 2012.2, proposed by Matthew Springett Associates, Beam campers and staff created a night sky of LED constellations controlled and navigated by a boat-machine.

Previous winners include Caitlin Berrigan’s “Macro/Micro Domes,” Steve Gerberich and Nathaniel Lieb’s “Beam Fleet,” Jan Drojarski and Jon Bocksel’s “Jungletopia,” Christine Baumgartner and Manuel Kretzer’s “Float With The Flowers,” the solar-powered film “A Trip to the Sun” by Daniela Kostova and Mike DeSeve, WIgnall & Moore’s “The Stories of Machines That Never Flew” and “The Habitats of Parker Mountain” by pragmatopia and architecture students of the University of Kassel, Germany.

ABOUT BEAM CAMP Beam Camp offers two 4 week summer sessions for kids aged 7-17 in Strafford, New Hampshire. Campers cultivate hands-on skills while exploring innovative thinking, design and the creative process. They swim, hike, play games and enjoy 750 acres of mountain, forests and lakes, while transforming ideas into artifacts and personal achievement into community success.

re:MMX is currently seeking video work for their Public Video Box. We are looking for videos that deal with dwellings, environments, metropolis, urban sprawl, private and public spaces of living and in general work that reacts to construction sites and city developments throughout the world.

MMX was 2010 and re:MMX is 2012, a remix of the old project but with an emphasis on public art. All videos are shown with a HD-ready projector, rear projection, directional speakers and played from a high-end media player.

Videos should be in the time range of 30 seconds to approx. 20 minutes in length. We show work with sound but have to take in consideration the neighbors so volume levels are kept in a normal range.

All videos that are shown get PR, future inclusion in the project’s publication and a modest honorarium. To see the works we have shown in the past please go to www.mmx.mx/re/VideoBox/

International Call for Artists
Three Commissioned Pieces
St. Louis Missouri, USA
Budgets: $50K-60K USD
Deadline: November 26, 2012

Metro’s Arts in Transit program is actively in search of artists or artist- led teams to design, fabricate and install artwork in three separate transportation hubs in the region’s transit system. Budgets for the three projects range from $50,000 to $60,000. Qualified artists are asked to submit their applications no later than 5 p.m. on November 26, 2012. The applications do not call for actual design proposals, but rather are intended to gather the information necessary to determine the qualifications of the responding artists relative to the requirements for each individual project.

All three projects involve the creation of public art pieces that need to be extremely durable and require as little upkeep as possible. The proposed pieces will be displayed prominently at local public transit sites, including the future Downtown Transit Center, the Riverview-Hall Transit Center and the Forest Park-DeBaliviere MetroLink Station.

1.      Metro is planning an expansion of its existing Civic Center Transit Center at 14th and Spruce.  Room for additional bus bays and a new climate controlled facility will be located adjacent to it. The selected artist will coordinate with the architect/engineer during the development of the Transit Center design. The artist contribution to the project could be additive in nature, such as designs on vertical surfaces like the shelters, windscreens, railings and screens, or integrated into horizontal surfaces such as sidewalks or platform waiting areas. Free standing or self-contained artwork compatible with an outdoor transit environment is an opportunity that could be explored as well. The proposed budget for the art project is $60,000 for this location.

2.      The Riverview-Hall Transit Center is an existing facility serving northern St. Louis. The location is home to a an existing tower structure constructed in 2007 designed to accommodate panels on four sides from ground level up to a height of approximately 20′. Metal flanges have been incorporated into the tower structure to attach and secure the artwork. This project, while situated on a three dimensional structure, lends itself not only to sculptors, but to artists working in two dimensional formats as well. Water, laser, plasma, and/or torch cutting methods could be employed to create designs or imagery along with combining with other materials to create a landmark work for the facility and neighborhood. Given the many possible approaches that can be considered, Arts in Transit will be available to assist the selected artist in developing the best design and combination of materials for the project within the $50,000 budget.

3.      The Forest Park-DeBaliviere MetroLink Station is located adjacent to an established residential neighborhood with historic turn of the twentieth-century homes and the Missouri History Museum, located within Forest Park. Because of both the historic and residential environment of the station, Metro seeks to engage a team willing to engage with the St. Louis community during the development of the artwork – from design through to its execution. The site, which is ideal for a mural, is a concrete retaining wall immediately adjacent to the east bound tracks and fully visible from the station platform. The wall area is approximately 150′ in length by approximately 12′ in height. The mural need not fill the entire wall but should provide a significant visual impact for transit users waiting at the station. While the existing retaining wall is appropriate for a large scale two-dimensional mural, other artistic approaches, such as bas-relief, mixed media, combined object, etc., may be proposed for the $50,000 project. This will be a challenging project due to the site’s proximity site to the light rail tracks and overhead power source. Proposers are encouraged to contact Arts in Transit for guidance.

For more information about guidelines, specific requirements for each of the proposals and links to the actual applications, visit www.artsintransit.org<http://www.artsintransit.org> or call David Allen, Director of Arts in Transit at (314) 982-1412.

International call for proposals for
2013 residency on Andrea Zittel’s Indy Island

Deadline: Friday, January 11, 2013

Indianapolis Museum of Art
4000 Michigan Road
Indianapolis, IN 46208

www.imamuseum.org/islandresidency
Twitter

The Indianapolis Museum of Art is issuing a call for proposals for a six-week summer 2013 residency on Andrea Zittel’s Indy Island within the IMA’s 100 Acres: The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art and Nature Park. Graduate and undergraduate students and professionals in the fields of art, design, architecture and performing arts are encouraged to apply to customize and reside on Indy Island.

Anchored in the 35-acre lake within 100 Acres, Indy Island is a habitable, « off-the-grid » structure accessible by rowboat. At about 20 feet in diameter, the island serves as an experimental living structure that examines our daily needs. Residents collaborate with Zittel by adapting and modifying the island’s structure according to their individual needs.

Despite Indy Island’s inherent limitations, the structure and residency are relatively open-ended. The aims of past projects were diverse, including:
• In 2010, Herron School of Art and Design (Indianapolis) students Jessica Dunn and Michael Runge activated the installation through a series of visitor interactions based on a system of exchange with their project titled Give and Take.

• The 2011 island resident was Katherine Ball, a student of Portland State University’s Art + Social Practice MFA program (Portland, Oregon). Over the course of her residency, titled No Swimming, Ball initiated a series of ecologically remedial interventions in the Park’s lake and engaged a local audience through a series of public programs centered on the topic of water.

• For his 2012 residency titled INDIGENOUS: Into the Wild with A. Bitterman, Kansas City-based artist A. Bitterman created a series of sculptural interventions throughout the Park that prompted visitors to question their relationship with « the wild. » To further this inquiry, Bitterman acted as an element of nature himself, and relied on visitors for food and refrained from verbal communication.

It’s important that the 2013 residency addresses concerns not previously explored. There must be a strong rationalization for why the proposed project must take place on Indy Island. Proposals that don’t specifically relate to the island or 100 Acres will not be considered.

To apply:
Apply for the residency at www.imamuseum.org/islandresidency. There, applicants can find photos and renderings of Indy Island, as well as further details about the selection process.

Proposals are due Friday, January 11, 2013, and should include a brief written statement and renderings of the proposed project. The residency must last six weeks or longer and be conducted between May and September 2013.

Open call for applications 2013: Unesco-Aschberg bursaries for Artists Programme: further information

deadline: 18 novembre 2012

UNIDEE – University of Ideas is Cittadellarte’s international pole of formation and exchange between knowledge and diverse problematics, open to a varied and multidisciplined group of creatives, professional people and students.
Here art abandons the conventional canons and instead places itself to integrate with society and with other disciplines: communication, production, economics, politic, architecture, design, literature, music, spirituality, ecology and nourishment.

UNIDEE in Residence runs for four months – from June to October – to explore the rapport between art and society and to investigate methodologies of creative interventions able to activate projects for a socially responsible change in society.
Unidee in residence forms a new professional skill: that of “activator” of projects for a Responsible Transformation of Society, which reunites the characteristics and skills of the artist, curator, cultural enterpreneur and social-projects manager.
At Cittadellarte the residents acquire a professional creative dimension that is productive and socially relevant, capable of responsibly confronting the problematics of real society and that offers innovative proposals to companies and administrations in different contexts.

The UNIDEE programme develops in direct synergy with the activities of Cittadellarte, interacting with the exhibitions, research and projects of the Uffizi in the areas of ecological architecture (Architecture Office), sustainable design (Production Office), of economic alternatives (Economics Office), of intercultural dialogue (Politics Office and Love Difference Project), of the relation between ecology and creativity (Ecology Office and ReMida Project), of sustainable fashion (Fashion Office), of creative communication (Communication Office), of art and social change (Art Office) and of the spirituality of art (Spirituality Office). The residents in this way have the opportunity to enter into contact and collaborate with the diverse realities of the territory and with the businesses and institutional partners of Cittadellarte. Numerous meetings, lectures and workshops are organised with experts from the creative world, business and art, who share with the residents their experience and knowledge.

Call to Artists: Acadia National Park Artist Residency, Maine
Deadline: January 7th, 2013

The Acadia National Park Artist-In-Residence Program provides professionals the opportunity to become part of a long-established tradition of artists in our national parks.

Mount Desert Island Artists: A Long Tradition
In the mid-1800s, landscape painters, including Thomas Cole and Frederic Church, came to Mount Desert Island and captured its beauty on canvas. Their work inspired writers, composers, naturalists, and folks from away to seek the natural splendor of the island.

Those who followed were known as rusticators because they ate and lived with local fishermen and farmers during their summer stay. The rusticators returned each summer to delight in the tranquillity of Mount Desert Island, and for some, to practice their craft. Villagers cottages and fishermen’s huts soon overflowed, and by 1880, 30 hotels competed for vacationers’ dollars. Ballet, opera, musical festivals, and readings flourished each summer on Mount Desert Island.
Over the years the accommodations and number of visitors have increased, but the heart of what first drew people here remains as Acadia National Park. The park, with its dramatic cliffs stretching to the sea, balsam-scented forests, and spring warbler serenades, offers artists a perfect setting to practice and pursue their craft.

Artist-In-Residence Program at Acadia
The Artist-in-Residence Program at Acadia National Park offers professional writers, composers, and all visual and performing artists the opportunity to pursue their particular art form while surrounded by the inspiring landscape of the park. In the spring and fall, the park provides housing to participants for two-week to four-week periods. No additional stipend is available.
In return, participating artists are asked to donate to the park collection a piece of work representative of their style and their stay. These creative works will be displayed on a rotating schedule or shared with the public through other appropriate means during the upcoming seasons. Artists are also asked to participate in one public program per week of their residency such as demonstrations, talks, exploratory hikes, or performances. In the fall, artists will be working with fifth and sixth grade students. Programs can be tailored to your medium, interests, and experiences, and only consume a few hours of your stay.

How to Apply
Applications for the program are accepted beginning October 1 and must be received by January 7 for consideration for the following season. Notification will be made by late March. There is a $25 non-refundable application fee for applying to the residency. Make checks payable to the National Park Service. Materials sent as part of the application packet will not be returned.
Any medium that involves collecting or altering park resources would be in conflict with national park preservation goals and would be deemed inappropriate for a residency.

To apply, please send:
•    Application Cover Sheet (pdf)
•    For visual artists: Six different digital images in jpg or tiff format on one CD, or, if sending slides, one set of six different images, plus the following materials.
•    For all other mediums: An appropriate sample of your recent work (e.g., six copies of a brief manuscript excerpt, short story, article, poetry, etc. – maximum of six pages – from writers and poets; one 1/2″ VHS tape or DVD from dancers and other performing artists), plus the following materials.
•    Six copies of:
◦    One- to two-page résumé and summary of creative works.
◦    One-page statement about what you hope to accomplish and achieve during a term as an artist-in-residence at Acadia National Park.
◦    Description of public/school presentation.
◦    Names and contact information of two references who know your work.
•    For additional information or to mail your application, please contact:
Artist-In-Residence Program Coordinator

Atelier Topaz – résidence

Opasatika, Ontario, Canada

International Helen M. Salzbert Artist in Residence Program, Book Arts, Florida

Deadline: January 22, 2013 (RECEIVE) or (HAND DELIVERY)
Stipend of $5000
Helen M. Salzberg Artist in Residence Program
Jaffe Center for Book Arts
Wimberly Library
Florida Atlantic University
Boca Raton, FL
Fall 2013

The Helen M. Salzberg Artist in Residence Program funds two working residencies for artists each academic year at the Jaffe Center for Book Arts, in the fall and spring semesters. Artists working in the book arts (and other media, too, as long as the creative project can be thought of as book arts related) are encouraged to apply for this prestigious and competitive award. We accept applications from artists from all over the world.

Poet and artist Helen M. Salzberg established the Salzberg AIR Program in 2011. Income from this endowed fund enables artists working in the book arts to come to the Jaffe Center on a semester basis to work and teach at the center. While here, the artist will produce a creative project using JCBA studios and also teach a workshop for FAU students and the general public and mentor FAU students as his or her schedule allows. The Salzberg AIR Program gives our students the opportunity to work alongside highly talented and creative book artists.

Two residencies will be awarded each academic year: one in the fall semester and one in the spring semester. The Artist in Residence (AIR) selected each semester will get his or her own office at JCBA and full use of the JCBA studios (papermaking, letterpress and book studios). The artist’s residency will last for 12 weeks, though shorter or longer residencies may be accommodated as needed. In the application process, if an artist has a particularly ambitious creative project in mind, the artist may apply for a residency that would encompass two semesters. Should the two-semester residency be awarded in this case, the artist would be expected to teach one workshop in each semester.

The AIR receives a stipend of $5,000 for the semester. The artist is responsible for transportation, housing, parking, meals and materials for his or her creative project. JCBA will provide materials for workshops.

APPLICATION
Artists who wish to compete for consideration for this prestigious opportunity must submit their application and support materials for review by a JCBA panel comprised of book artists and book arts enthusiasts. Your application packet must be submitted via post or delivered in person to JCBA and should include the following:
1. Completed application, or suitable cover letter that supplies the same information requested on the application.
2. Brief narrative of the creative project you envision.
3. Brief narrative of the workshop you would like to teach.
4. Current resume.
5. Any support materials you care to include: we welcome images of your work, sketches for the creative project, video… be creative and have fun.

All applications will be weighed equally by our panel.

RESÒ

International Art Residency Program

New open call December 2012

www.reso-network.net

From the beginning of December, the international platform RESÒ residency program is pleased to announce the new open call for its third edition.

The six mid-term residencies will run in 2013 in Piedmont (Italy) and San Paulo (Brazil), New Delhi (India) and Cairo (Egypt).

Born in 2010 from a collaboration between the leading Piedmontes institutions for contemporary art and education, the platform RESÒ is supported and promoted by the Foundation for Modern and Contemporary Art CRT.

RESÒ is spelled phonetically from the French word reseau, meaning network, and it is used in order to focus on the territory’s resources, cultural as well as social and artistic: a network of support for creative production in and with the region of Piedmont. In fact, RESÒ grows from a collaboration that, for the first time, brings together many of the major contemporary art institutions in Piedmont, then adds the support and participation of foreign institutions Capacete, Khoj and Townhouse Gallery.

With the participation of these many institutions, RESÒ calls for the creation of IN and OUT, an ongoing program of international residencies to promote the overall mobility of artists. The goal is to establish places for theoretical reflection and creative growth through which the presence of the artist will also become a stimulus for the surrounding community. Any region that hosts international residencies will reap cultural and social benefits.

RESÒ_1 (2010–2011) saw the start of the six residencies that form the IN and OUT programs. The IN program, clearly focused on activities within the Piedmont region, begins with residencies developed specifically by Unidee Cittadellarte (Magdi Mostafa from Cairo), Spinola Banna Foundation for Art (the Egyptian Amsterdam-based Dina Danish) and the PAV-Parco Arte Vivente (Amilcar Packer from Brazil). The OUT program, on the other hand, focuses on the three residencies developed separately by Townhouse Gallery (in Cairo with Alessandro Quaranta) and Capacete (in Rio de Janeiro with Irene Pittatore and Francesca Macrì; in San Paulo with Paola Anzichè).

RESÒ_2 (2011–2012) involves six international artists in residency at Unidee Cittadellarte (Sunil Vallu from New Delhi), CeSAC (Jasmina Metwaly from Cairo), Eco e Narciso (Beto Shwafaty from Rio de Janeiro), Khoj International Artists Association (Ottavia Castellina from Turin and London), Townhouse Gallery (the Italian Rotterdam-based Eva Frapiccini), and Capacete (the young but well-known couple Massimiliano and Gianluca De Serio).

Each artist is selected by a committee representing the institutions involved. During the six/nine weeks-long residency, the artists take part in meetings, panels, workshops and studio visits. Finally, the RESÒ resident artists are encouraged to produce artworks that reflect on the current definitions of learning, of knowledge and of community and practice, giving back his/her personal sight on the territory and the residency experience.

All the outcomes are collected, year by year, in the RESÒ traveling box, a suitcase inspired by Duchamp’s Boîte-en-valise, a sort of archive of memories and traces that, with the instruction booklet, becomes an itinerant « do it yourself » exhibition (shown at Artissima_18 and 19 International Fair).

Info and applications are available on www.reso-network.net.
