La Galerie du Centre culturel franco-manitobain

Appel aux artistes en arts visuels

Le Centre culturel franco-manitobain vous invite à soumettre une proposition d’exposition en arts visuels pour la période de programmation allant d’avril 2015 à mars 2016.

Le Centre culturel franco-manitobain abrite une galerie d’art depuis sa construction en 1974. Celle-ci occupe 1 550 pieds carrés au rez-de-chaussée de l’édifice, au cœur du lieu public. Au cours des années, la Galerie du CCFM a présenté plusieurs expositions importantes pour initier la communauté francophone du Manitoba aux arts visuels. Le Centre culturel franco-manitobain est présentement à la recherche de soumissions pour des expositions en arts visuels, pour la période de programmation allant d’avril 2015 à mars 2016. Tout artiste professionnel ayant terminé sa formation de base, ayant pratiqué son art pendant au moins un an depuis la fin de ses études, et ayant à son actif un corps d’œuvres pour exposition est invité à déposer sa soumission pour une exposition dans la Galerie.

APPEL DE DOSSIERS POUR LES ARTS DE LA SCÈNE

Date limite pour soumettre un projet en arts de la scène: 1 février

Le MAI (Montréal, arts interculturels) invite les professionnels en arts de la scène à soumettre leurs projets de création avant la date indiquée. Les artistes et les organismes peuvent soumettre un projet de diffusion en danse, théâtre (en français ou en anglais), musique, chanson, arts multidisciplinaires et performance. Il est possible de profiter d’un montage prolongé dans le théâtre, d’une résidence de création en salle de répétition ou d’une résidence technique et d’organiser des conférences ou toute activité relative aux arts de la scène. Le MAI offre un cachet aux artistes. Les projets peuvent être locaux, nationaux ou internationaux et, selon les ressources disponibles, le MAI pourra soutenir la diffusion aux plans technique, promotionnel ou administratif.

Ces projets doivent s’inscrire dans une démarche interculturelle.

Le MAI privilégie les créations originales, conçues pour les espaces du MAI et n’ayant jamais été présentées à Montréal. Le MAI porte une attention particulière aux propositions qui intègrent à leur démarche la présence ou la participation du public, soit en favorisant une interaction entre l’œuvre et le spectateur, en établissant un rapport ludique avec lui, en l’impliquant dans le processus de création ou encore en permettant une interaction avec les communautés locales.

Le MAI présente des artistes de diverses origines et milieux qui questionnent, confrontent et reflètent leurs bagages respectifs, et dont les œuvres peuvent être iconoclastes ou en dialogue avec la tradition. Parmi les artistes et compagnies présentés, on retrouve: Emmanuel Jouthe, Rahul Varma, Wajdi Mouawad, nah-ee-lah, Mamata Nyogi-Nakra, Patrick Graham, Alex Cattaneo, Jason “Blackbird“ Selman, Jerusalem in my Heart, Meena Murugesan, Roger Sinha, Le Trunk Collectif, Zab Maboungou, Catherine Potter, Fabrice Koffy, Nadine Sures, Dana Michel, 2Fik, Urban Ink.

Implanté à Lévis, Regart, centre d’artistes en art actuel assure, depuis 1986, une présence dynamique des arts visuels actuels auprès des publics des territoires de Chaudière-Appalaches et de Québec.

Présentée en galerie, sa programmation met l’accent sur des productions relevant de l’hybridation des formes d’expression et de l’expérimentation, tant dans les processus de création que dans la présentation des expositions, où la qualité artistique et l’importance du discours théorique sont mises de l’avant.

APPEL DE PROJETS

Soutien à la production et à la diffusion
en arts numériques pour la série Sortir de l’écran

SOUMISSION DE DOSSIERS : 15 janvier 2014

Agence TOPO, centre d’artistes montréalais en arts numériques, lance un appel de projets dans le cadre de Sortir de l’écran / Spoken Screen. Cette série, initiée en 2007 avec le laboratoire NT2 de l’Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM), présente des oeuvres [hyper]médiatiques qui incorporent un volet performance et qui explorent le lien entre l’écran et l’espace hors de l’écran : lectures et interprétations poétiques, performances participatives, dispositifs interactifs, etc.

Pour ses prochains programmes de diffusion, Agence TOPO recherche des propositions de performances multimédias favorisant l’exploration du texte, de l’image et du son, à la fois dans leurs dimensions physique et écranique.

Les projets retenus bénéficieront d’un soutien artistique, technique et technologique à la réalisation multimédia dans le cadre d’une résidence de quatre à huit semaines réparties selon les besoins des artistes et des projets. Les dates de diffusion prévues de la série sont pour 2014 et 2015.

Dans le but de respecter les échéanciers prévus, les projets en cours de réalisation et ceux qui démontrent un engagement solide de la part des artistes seront favorisés.

Les artistes intéressés par cet appel de projets et le contexte de production offert par Agence TOPO sont invités à  soumettre leur dossier d’ici le 15 janvier 2014.

APPEL DE TEXTES

ETC est maintenant entièrement consacrée aux arts médiatiques. Afin d’adapter notre fonctionnement éditorial à l’actualité de la discipline, d’ouvrir la revue aux initiatives des auteurs et d’accélérer les délais de publication, nous lançons un appel de textes permanent. Ceci s’applique à toutes les sections de la revue. Les auteurs sont donc sollicités à nous faire parvenir en tout temps des articles, entrevues, comptes rendus d’expositions, recension d’ouvrages, sur toutes les dimensions des arts médiatiques.

Les communautés des technologies numériques, de l’électronique, de l’audio, des nouveaux médias, de l’immersif, de l’interactif, du cinéma, de la vidéo, du Web et d’autres disciplines liées aux technologies de création et d’exploration numérique ont leur revue !

Les textes seront examinés et sélectionnés par le comité de rédaction d’ETC.

Les auteur(e)s sont invité(e)s à proposer des articles trois fois par année. Les articles sont ensuite évalués par les membres du comité de rédaction qui avisent l’auteur de leur décision, dans les cinq semaines suivant la date de tombée.

Pour proposer un texte, il est recommandé de tenir compte des caractéristiques suivantes :

Tous les formats d’articles sont acceptés (750 à 2 500 mots) + 5-6 documents visuels de 3 megs minimum (TIFF ou JPEG), accompagnés de légendes ou vignettes. Inclure également: un résumé de l’article (100 mots), ainsi qu’une courte biographie (50-80 mots maximum), et les coordonnées postales, électroniques et téléphoniques de l’auteur-e.

Les articles et les documents visuels doivent être envoyés par courriel en format WORD ou RTF à: etc [point] artactuel [arobas] videotron [point] ca  Ou, par voie postale, sur DVD, à: ETC   C.P. 660, Succursale de la Station, Prévost (Qc) J0R 1T0   Canada.

 Politique éditoriale du comité de rédaction et droits d’auteur-e

 1. L’auteur-e accorde à ETC, pour une période de quatre (4) années à compter de la signature du présent contrat, l’autorisation exclusive de publier dans la revue

2. Tout en demeurant titulaire du droit d’auteur, l’auteur-e concède à ETC, pour une période de 10 ans, une licence exclusive lui permettant de reproduire ou d’autoriser la reproduction dudit texte sur tous les supports, notamment sur papier (reprographie), acétates, micro-fiches, microfilms, électroniques (cédéroms, Internet, intranet, etc.) et ce, dans le monde entier.

3. En contrepartie de ces utilisations, ETC versera à l’auteur-e, une fois l’an, 50 % des sommes nettes reçues pour le texte visé, ainsi qu’un rapport de la provenance des sommes.

4. L’auteur-e conserve le droit de percevoir la part des redevances payables aux auteurs pour la reproduction de leurs textes en vertu d’ententes conclues avec Copibec.

En plus des présentations en salle; installations, sculptures, œuvres en deux dimensions, AAA portera une attention particulière aux dossiers combinant une intervention hors les murs tel que performances, art relationnel, collaboration avec le public.

Subtle Technologies presents

Open Culture: Participatory Practices in Art & Science
16-25 May 2014, Toronto

In May 2014, Subtle Technologies will be holding its 17th annual festival in Toronto.

Deadline: 20 January 2014

Our symposium, performances, workshops, screenings, exhibitions and networking sessions provide a forum to explore ideas and pose questions at the intersection of art, science and technology. Subtle Technologies is known internationally for presenting artists and scientists whose work is at the leading edge of their respective disciplines and creating a space for dialogue that leads to future discussions and collaborations.

Our theme for 2014 is « Open Culture« . The festival will celebrate the ways artists and scientists are creating and making use of tools and techniques to harness the collective power, knowledge and creativity of the citizen. Bringing together artists and scientists who are working in these domains will open streams of dialogue leading to increased collaboration between artists and scientists who are interested in contributions of an engaged public. We are currently accepting submissions by artists, curators and scientists on the ideas presented below as well as others that fall under the umbrella of participatory culture.

One of the topics we would like to explore is citizen science. There are numerous current examples, such as « SETI at Home », EyeWire, Galaxy Zoo and foldit. These projects allow the public to contribute to large online science endeavours. Citizen science projects are not without controversy. The recently announced project uBiome is a crowd-sourced project that invites volunteers to have the makeup of microbes on their body analyzed. They are facing a large outcry from ethicists on the ethics and privacy issues that their project to date hasn’t addressed. We welcome submissions that explore the role of citizen science, benefits, pitfalls, mechanisms, philosophy and ethics surrounding non-scientists involved in scientific research.

Another related movement in contemporary science is open science. This concept suggests that scientists share their data as quickly as possible, allowing others to benefit from and make use of their research. « Open notebook science » implies the dissemination of both raw and processed scientific data as it is captured. We would like to invite practitioners, advocates and critics of open science to contribute submissions to our festival.

The festival will also explore the ways artists invoke participatory culture in the creation of tools and artworks. Media artists have fully engaged in the networked world and are making use of mobile networks and ubiquitous computing in their artworks. These technologies allow for real time interaction and data collection. With the recent movement towards Open Data in cities, artists are finding a wealth of data sets generated by citizens to create art that explores the ebb and flow of the city through the visualization and sonification of that data. Media artists drive a number of open source projects that harness the collective knowledge of others to develop powerful open source creative tools such as Pure Data, Processing and Dynebolic. These tools and others have become the « Swiss Army Knives » of contemporary media artists. The recent rise of popularity in hacker spaces and maker communities see the fusion of artists, technologists and scientists coming together to co-operatively create projects which straddle the art/science/technology boundaries. We would like to present some of these projects as well as discuss the DIY movement in general terms as it relates to art and science. Crowdsourcing has become an integral element in the recent rise of participatory culture. We are seeking submissions that discuss this and other creative approaches to empowering individuals and collectives to realize their goals.

We are interested in these and other interpretations of our theme across disciplines and cultures. Our 2014 festival will explore open culture and participatory practices through exhibitions, workshops, panels, screenings, a symposium and poster session. All selected participants will be paid a small honorarium for their participation, however please note that we are usually unable to provide travel expenses.

Before submitting your proposal, please take a look at the archives on our website to get a sense of our previous programming. We encourage you to state clearly how your submission relates to our theme and festival, and to be as precise as possible in your project description, especially on the following points:

– Symposium presentations: please submit in clear terms the subject matter you would like to cover in your talk. Presentations are typically between 20 to 45 minutes.

– Curatorial ideas: please submit a curatorial statement with a list of artists whenever possible.

– Workshop ideas: please include the number of participants the workshop is geared towards as well as space and technical requirements.

– Exhibitions: please outline basic space and technical requirements.

– Performances: please outline basic space and technical requirements.

The Alternator accepts exhibition proposals from artists and curators. Selections are based on:

• Compatibility with the Alternator’s mandate
• Quality of the proposal
• Quality of work submitted by the artist
• Availability of space

SUBMISSIONS ARE REVIEWED ON AN ONGOING BASIS. CAR/FAC fees are paid. Submissions from both individual artists and groups will be considered with an emphasis on an experimental approach.

In 2015 the Alternator is inviting exhibiting artists to create an extension of their work for public space. Please include a short proposal for this secondary component along with your submission. For example this might include a banner, posters, public performance or outdoor projection. A separate presentation fee will be paid.

Please include all of the following when submitting your proposal:

• A brief description (maximum 300 words) clearly outlining the exhibition you are proposing
• Artist statement – maximum 500 words
• Curriculum vitae
• 15-20 images with name and title. Video artists may submit a video no longer than 5 minutes

Ces objets ou concepts forment la base d’une présentation et d’une perception séparées, tout en interagissant avec les œuvres des lauréats du NTAA.

Colloquium ‘Immortalité’
A l’occasion de l’exposition Update_4 à Zebrastraat à Gand, à École Nationale Supé­rieure des Arts Visuels de La Cambre et iMAL à Bruxelles, un colloque fut organisé autour du thème « l’immortalité dans l’art ». Des directeurs de musée, des restaura­teurs, des philosophes, des artistes et des chercheurs ont réfléchi sur la survie phy­sique et symbolique des oeuvres d’art et plus spécifiquement d’oeuvres liées à l’infor­matique ou à la technologie. Il est clair que les paradigmes traditionnels concernant la préservation et la conservation sont sous pression. Cela soulève de nouvelles questions sur ce qui peut et doit être sauvegardée. Grâce à la réalisation de « parti­tions », qui jouent le rôle de guide, il devient possible de reproduire une œuvre d’art, ce qui mène à une nouvelle interprétation du concept de son authenticité. Les résultats de ce colloque de trois jours sont publiés en ligne avec des textes et des images.

The Spring Exhibition 2014 – Charlottenborg Fonden, Copenhagen

The Spring Exhibition (Forårsudstillingen) is one of the most important open-submission exhibitions in Europe, and has been held annually in Copenhagen since 1857. It originated as an exhibition showing new works by Danish artists and now features participants from many countries. Over the years it has included early works by such renowned international figures as Alvar Aalto, Per Kirkeby, Olafur Eliasson, Kirstine Roepstorff and many others. The exhibition is organised by Charlottenborg Fonden.

Submissions
Submissions to the Spring Exhibition 2014 can be made by artists of any nationality and country of residence, aged over 18 years. Submitted artworks may fall into a wide range of genres associated with art, architecture and design—including painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography, video, film, performance, design, craft, animation, sound and new media. Submissions are made digitally in the period 3 to 10 January 2014.

Note: All accepted video art will be shown on individual flatscreens (32 inches) with headphones.

Jury
The jury of the Spring Exhibition is made up of artists and other art and design professionals from the Nordic countries and beyond. It is intended that the Spring Exhibition 2014 will include a broad range of competencies from the fields of art, architecture and design, and the jurors have been selected accordingly. In 2014 the jury will be:

Jury award

Exhibition
The exhibition is held at Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen, one of the largest and most beautiful spaces for contemporary art in Europe, and the dates of the next exhibition are 10 April to 18 May 2014. The exhibition allows a considerable number of artists to participate in a major international project and has over the years provided the first significant platform for many emerging artists, while also presenting important new pieces by more established figures.

The Impakt Festival is the annual culmination of the activities of Impakt as an organisation that specialises in critical media culture: a multi-media festival with conferences, talks, performances, screenings, exhibitions, presentations and music. Artificial intelligence is a concept that appeals to the imagination. The ‘Singularity,’ the moment at which computers become more intelligent than people, is a utopia for some and a nightmare for others. But what about the emotional and empathetic capabilities of computers and machines? Humans are naturally inclined to ascribe feelings to machines. At this point in time, robotic nurse assistants are already carrying out important work in nursing homes, and computers and mathematical models are playing an increasingly greater role in ethical decision-making. But when is there a question of the capability of real empathy? Can humans actually deal with robots that in terms of appearance and behaviour almost can’t be distinguished from real people? Is interacting with robots culturally determined? What happens when we increasingly computerize the world and the influence of humans fades away into the background? Under the influence of medical, psychiatric and sociological insights, human beings are increasingly being viewed as machines that can be controlled and improved. Are the complexity of our products and systems and the extensive computerization and ‘dehumanization’ causing an erosion of the material and ideological basis of our society?

Machines might be resembling people more and more, but isn’t the real revolution taking place on the other side of the line, where the human psyche is slowly being changed by our interaction with computers?

Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF) has announced the 2014 Production Programme open call offering grants for artists working in a range of media including sculpture, installation, time-based media, artist’s books, and performance. Up to a total of 200,000 USD is available in this application cycle. Over the past decade, SAF Production Programme grants have resulted in a range of major commissions including works by Bani Abidi and CAMP, which premiered at dOCUMENTA (13), Kassel. The 2012 recipients of the SAF Production Programme grants were artists Sean Gullette, Mario Rizzi, and Lindsay Seers. Since the programme launched in 2008, over 500 submissions have been received, 230 applications considered, and 28 projects selected for production.

Nature, adversité, etc. – appel à propositions pour une résidence transdiciplinaire à Utopiana (Genève, Suisse).

Les propositions peuvent comprendre des projets artistiques de différents médias, des ateliers, ou d’autres formes d’interventions.
Utopiana développe ses activités autour de trois axes : les résidences artistes, « Plantopic » – un projet de recherche et de jardinage, et un événement public en 2015 intitulé « La Bête et l’adversité ».

En 2013, un potager urbain, crée par des artistes et des habitants du quartier s’est intégré dans l’univers d’Utopiana. A présent nous lançons un appel à propositions pour venir en résidence dans ce contexte. Le jardin est un microcosme qui nous permet de questionner le vieux couple de la nature et de la culture.

Contrairement au préjugé de « l’artiste comme génie », qui a inspiré le romantisme avec la conviction que « la contemplation de la nature peut nous amener à comprendre le sens profond des choses », Utopiana invite des personnes intéressés en résidence pour accompagner « la vie secrète des plantes ». En plus de l’espace de travail offert traditionnellement par la résidence, une parcelle de 5m2 dans le potager sera aussi disponible en tant qu’espace d’expérimentation dans le  jardin commun « Pote à Jean ». Cet appel s’adresse à ceux et celles, qui pensent pouvoir contribuer à ce sujet et qui sont prêts à entrer en dialogue avec le jardin et ses occupants.

Cette résidence sera accompagnée par le groupe de recherche « Plantopic », qui s’appuie sur la permaculture en tant qu’attitude et forme alternative de construction sociale. Dans cette même direction, il s’agit de penser la médiation comme milieu, comme entre-deux, intermédiaire, mais aussi environnement, contexte, et « produire des savoirs qui concourent à fabriquer autrement nos histoires… ».

La résidence est située dans la perspective d’un événement qui aura lieu en 2015, « La Bête et l’adversité ». La notion d’adversité désigne l’ambiguïté fondamentale de notre existence qui fait que nous voulons posséder et maîtriser la nature, mais qu’elle nous possède et nous maîtrise au moins autant. Ainsi, au cœur de notre être et dans notre environnement, habite une force qui nous constitue autant qu’elle nous échappe. La question qui nous guide dans ce projet est dès lors la suivante : si la nature n’est ni un réservoir de ressources à exploiter, ni un espace inerte à posséder, et pas plus un ensemble de mécanismes à maîtriser, comment composer avec elle ? Nous visons à remettre en question notre relation à la nature construite économiquement, culturellement et politiquement, et à explorer des pratiques et pensées alternative à ces sujets.

Glenfiddich Issues Call to Canadian Artists to Enter Competition for the Coveted
2014 Glenfiddich Artists in Residence Prize

Glenfiddich is issuing a Call to Artists currently living and creating art in Canada to enter the internationally renowned competition for the prestigious 2014 Glenfiddich Artists in Residence Prize.

The Canadian winner will be one of only eight artists worldwide to be awarded the art community’s coveted prize to live and work at the Glenfiddich distillery in Dufftown, Scotland. The three-month residency valued at $20,000 per artist represents the Glenfiddich commitment to the arts and the communities it serves.

Now in its 12th year internationally and 10th in Canada, the Glenfiddich Artists in Residence Prize attracts nearly 150 submissions across Canada from the visual arts. The prize covers the cost of travel, living expenses and materials throughout the residency. From the submissions, five jury members choose eight finalists and ultimately one winner.

The distinguished jury for the selection of the Canadian Glenfiddich Artists in Residence Prize includes, Dr. Sara Diamond, president of OCAD University, Gaetane Verna, director of The Power Plant, Kitty Scott, curator of modern and contemporary art at AGO, Julian Sleath, programming manager of special events, economic development & culture at the City of Toronto, and the Canadian 2008 Glenfiddich Artists in Residence Prize recipient, Dave Dyment.

While living in crofts (traditional small Scottish farm houses), artists are encouraged to find inspiration from the unique setting in the Scottish Highlands. The experience provides an opportunity unlike any other for artists to work in an international community, share in a dialogue with other artists and foster cross-disciplinary ideas.

Witt Residency Program

The mission of the Roman J. Witt Residency Program is to support the production of new work with assistance from the Stamps School community. The program awards one residency per academic year for a visiting artist/designer to work at the school to develop a new work in collaboration with students and faculty. A centerpiece of the residency is the open studio, a centrally located studio space that is part of the school’s main gallery where the resident carries out work in a public domain. This public visibility of the artist/designer’s process is intended as a teaching tool for the school as a whole. The residency is expected to culminate in the realization of the proposed work, as well as a presentation that summarizes the process and work accomplished.

Eligibility

The Witt Residency is open to both established and emerging artists/designers. The Witt residency provides students a alternative learning opportunity to engage with practicing artists/designers who make use of resources across campus. Therefore, the ideal candidate must value collaboration, have good social and communication skills and be interested in generating creative partnerships across disciplines. It is the goal of the Witt Residency to foster an atmosphere of inventive creative activity that extends throughout the University community.

Honorarium

Witt Residents receive an honorarium of $20,000 for up to twelve weeks in residence served over one academic year. There is flexibility in how the time in residence is apportioned. In addition to the honorarium, residents will be provided with housing, studio space, and up to $5,000 funding support for project materials. The School encourages applications from individuals as well as from creative teams however, please be advised that the resources listed above are finite, including the travel budget. If teams apply the expectation is that the award will be shared among its members.

The Witt Residency Program’s application process is conducted using SlideRoom, an online review system. Applicants register and submit their application materials on the SlideRoom website using the Stamps School’s portal. SlideRoom is web-based, so all applicants need is an Internet connection and a modern web browser – there is nothing to download or install. Applicants with prepared digital files can quickly upload their submission within minutes.

Chaque année depuis 1991, l’École nationale supérieure d’art de Bourges reçoit de jeunes artistes en résidence, avec le soutien financier de la Direction Régionale des Affaires Culturelles et du Conseil Régional du Centre. Ces résidences ont pour but de permettre à de jeunes artistes français ou étrangers de réaliser un projet de recherche personnelle en lien avec l’école, ses enseignants, ses étudiants ou tout autre partenaire extérieur.

Les candidatures sont sélectionnées par un jury composé d’un représentant de la Direction Régionale des Affaires Culturelles du Centre, du Conseil Régional Centre, de la Directrice du Fonds Régional d’Art Contemporain Centre, de trois enseignants de l’école et du Directeur de l’école.

Les candidat(e)s retenu(e)s bénéficient d’un temps de résidence de trois mois minimum et quatre mois maximum, à fixer pendant la période scolaire.

Ils(elles) bénéficient d’une bourse de 3.000 €.

Le(la) résident(e) est logé(e) dans un atelier d’artiste d’une superficie de 100 m2, équipé d’un espace d’atelier, d’un coin cuisine, d’une chambre à coucher et d’une salle de bain en mezzanine.

Le projet de recherche et ses implications budgétaires seront remis à Chloé Nicolas un mois avant le début du séjour. Une réunion de validation se tiendra à l’arrivée du(de la) résident(e) et donnera lieu à une convention entre lui(elle) et l’école.

Le(la) résident(e) s’engage à présenter son travail sous forme de conférence au début de son séjour et à mettre en œuvre un projet de workshop avec les étudiants de l’école.

Il(elle) travaillera en étroite collaboration avec l’équipe pédagogique et plus particulièrement avec l’équipe permanente de La Box : Véronique Frémiot (responsable des résidences) et Chloé Nicolas (responsable de La Box).

Atelier Topaz – résidence 
Opasatika, Ontario, Canada
Le lieu
Situés au cœur de la forêt boréale, les Ateliers Topaz sont à la fois un lieu de retraite et un centre de création pour artistes, toutes disciplines confondues. L’endroit parfait pour la réflexion, l’évasion. Le groupement d’édifices fait 900 mètres carrés et repose sur 14 hectares face à la route Transcanadienne. Il donne sur un étang de deux hectares. Topaz c’est la « Route 66 » dans le nord de l’Ontario. L’endroit, modeste et nostalgique, rappelle aussi les grandes épopées de la colonisation francophone de l’Ontario. Ces studios de création ou cette résidence d’artistes, endroit idéal pour les arts visuels, sont situés au centre du Canada, à mi-chemin entre l’Atlantique et le Pacifique, là où les étoiles deviennent les topazes de la nuit.
Ce qu’on offre
D’abord l’espace et, l’espace de travail déterminés selon les besoins de l’artiste. Les espaces polyvalents permettent d’y faire de la peinture, de la sculpture, de l’installation, etc. L’atelier de menuiserie, le Bar à clou, est équipé des outils de base. Un magasin d’objets trouvés est disponible autant pour l’inspiration que pour l’utilisation dans une œuvre. Le peintre apporte ses pinceaux, le musicien son instrument et l’écrivain son ordi.

Les personnes qui séjournent aux Ateliers Topaz jouissent de l’accès à la cuisine et sont responsables de préparer leurs repas. Toutefois Laurent peut aussi leur cuisiner de petits plats typiquement canadiens-français aux besoins ou aux désirs. 

Topaz possède deux suites avec lit double et une chambre avec lit simple. Chacune possède sa salle de toilette avec douche. Ces installations évoquent admirablement le style des années 1960. 

Pour la baignade, le Lac des Cœurs se situe à deux kilomètres à l’est. Pour le canotage ou la pèche, la rivière Opasatika est deux kilomètres à l’ouest. Pour se déplacer, il y a de vieux vélos ou la marche. Pour un frais très raisonnable, votre hôte peut aussi vous conduire ou organiser un déplacement vers Kapuskasing à l’est ou vers Hearst à l’ouest. 

Les matériaux d’artistes ne sont pas disponibles dans la région. Il est donc important de faire vos achats avant votre séjour, à moins que vous travailliez avec des matériaux que l’on peut se procurer dans des magasins ordinaires ou même en nature.

88 Scott Call for Credentials
Public Art Management (PAM) is the public art project manager for a major downtown mixed-use development project by Concert Properties Limited (‘Owner”) named 88 Scott (“the Project”), situated in the heart of the St. Lawrence neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. As the first stage of the public art planning process, PAM is issuing this Call To Artists (“Call”) to initiate the first of a three-stage selection process to identify artists willing to work with the team in the creation of outstanding public art works for this Project in downtown Toronto.

It is anticipated that the commercial component of the project will be completed by the Spring of 2017. The artworks should be delivered in conjunction with the delivery of this space. The purpose of this Call is to identify a pool of artists and/or artist teams that will be considered for one or both public art locations for the Project.

The public art program intends to commission distinctive, urban scale, meritorious works by exemplary Canadian and/or international artists for select locations within the Project. The artworks must reflect the best of contemporary art practice and be suitable in materials, form and content.

There are two public art locations for consideration, they are as follows:

Location 1: Public Atrium

The primary public art location for 88 Scott is the two-storey L-Shaped atrium on the south east corner of the site, diagonally opposite Berczy Park. The space measures approximately 26 metres long, and 7 metres wide along the “stem” of the “L” and 5m long and 7m wide at the “base” (please see Appendix 3, Location
1). The atrium has a height of nearly 9 metres and is a prime location for a suspended work of art. The reconstructed 4 metre high glass portals at grade, 2 metre high windows above, and a 2 storey glazed section along the west side of the mid-century building will offer excellent views into the atrium from Scott Street, Wellington Street, as well as Berczy Park, beckoning those outside to come in for a closer look. The atrium will also have prominent ground floor views from the retail space at grade into the atrium, and from the second floor office space looking down in to the atrium. We are not encouraging a large-scale ground-based element due to the limited width of the atrium, at approximately 7 metres wide, and the potential future retail uses within the atrium. The potential for a suspended sculptural and/or lighting installation would be optimal due to its indoor location which therefore protects the artwork from the elements as well as vandalism. The suspended artwork will invite pedestrians into the public atrium from the immediate surrounding area, and act as a beacon for the corner of Wellington and Scott Streets, with a great deal of visibility from the exterior.

Location 2: Wellington Street Entranceway and Soffit

The public art will also have an exterior expression within the soffit area of the cantilevered office space above what will be a vibrant retail boulevard, and could potentially move above the commercial entrance of the development and flow into the atrium space. This space measures approximately 32m long, 2m wide, and would suspend from the underside of the cantilevered second floor office down about 1m (see Appendix 3, Location 2).The underside of the soffit along Wellington Street was chosen as a secondary location for the public art opportunity as it may interfere with future retail signage and business operations.
A surface and/or subtle lighting treatment, or combination thereof, could act as an intimately-scaled feature for the public in an area with high pedestrian traffic and minimal lighting that may act as a starting/marking point for the primary art location in the public atrium, guiding the public into the site.

Public Art Budget: $540,000*
*includes artist design fees, fabrication, delivery, and installation of artwork

Professional artists are invited to submit their credentials for consideration by PAM and the Owner. Artists who are experienced in creating large, permanent, urban scale works for interior and exterior locations and artists who have successfully worked in collaborative projects are invited to enter.

One artist/artist team will be considered/selected for the whole of the project, meaning the selected artist will commission artworks for both sites, with emphasis on Location One. Location Two will be seen more as an introductory artwork that leads viewers into the atrium.

For Stage One, PAM is seeking artists to submit:
• no more than 10 images, a CV (or one for each member of the team, if applicable)
• the names and contact information of two references
• a signed PDF or JPEG copy of the Agreement to Propose
• an anticipated and approximate design fee
• your availability between now and the Spring of 2017

The Agreement to Propose can be found near the end of the document under the heading Appendix #1 (See www.publicartmgmt.com/pressreleases/88scott.pdf). Please print, fill out and sign, and scan or photograph the completed form and send to the art consultant via email.

Artists may advance in the program based on a professional review of their qualifications, profile and past work. Future commissions will be awarded following a second stage, whereby preferred artists may be interviewed and concepts may be submitted. To be eligible for this program, applicants must be professional artists; that is, artists who are recognized as such by their peers, who have specialized training in the field, and who have a history of public exhibition (exhibitions in museums and public galleries).

It is anticipated that the subsequent stages of the competition, including the selection/awarding of the commission, by mid-late 2014.

Please note we are not seeking existing artworks offered for sale under any circumstances whatsoever.

2014 Cheng Long Wetlands International Environmental Art Project in Taiwan

Artists from all countries are invited to send a proposal for a site-specific outdoor sculpture installation that will celebrate the seafood producers and fishermen of Cheng Long village in Taiwan and raise awareness about environmental issues relating to seafood production, the main livelihood of Cheng Long residents.  The artworks will be created during a 25-day artist-in-residency in Taiwan working with the community and school children from April 10 to May 5, 2014.  Selected artists will receive a stipend (about US$2000), round trip airfare, accommodations and meals, volunteer help and free recycled and natural materials.

Call for Artists and Creative Design Teams

The Corporation of the City of St. Catharines, on behalf of the Welland Canal Fallen Workers Task Force, is inviting Expressions of Interest from artists and creative design teams for the Welland Canal Fallen Workers Memorial project. The Memorial will honour the 126 men who died while building the Welland Ship Canal currently in use today. Their deaths represent the largest loss of life in a federal government infrastructure project in Canadian history, taking place between 1914 and 1932.

The project is a collaborative Niagara-based initiative.
