Situé dans l’édifice La Filature – une ancienne filature industrielle magnifiquement rénovée -, DAÏMÕN offre des ressources de création, de production et de diffusion dans les domaines de la photographie et des arts médiatiques.

Par ses programmes Artiste résident, Recherche et création, Photographie et impression numérique et Soutien aux premières œuvres, DAÏMÕN encourage les artistes à repousser les limites de leur pratique et à développer de nouvelles approches par le biais de l’image, de la vidéo, ainsi que des arts sonores et électroniques, y compris les pratiques installatives, interactives et performatives. DAÏMÕN privilégie les projets qui font valoir le jeu de plus en plus complexe des médias entre eux et qui interrogent les zones intermédiaires et non seulement les langages constitués des médias utilisés. Seuls les projets comportant un certain degré de recherche sont considérés.

Avec son STUDIÕ, espace de production et de diffusion, DAÏMÕN favorise la mise en espace et la mise à l’essai d’œuvres d’envergure, ainsi que le développement des pratiques transversales. Des rencontres publiques y sont organisées régulièrement afin de permettre à la communauté de s’initier au travail des artistes accueillis en résidence. Ce STUDIÕ multifonctionnel est offert aux artistes pour l’expérimentation, la production et la présentation d’œuvres dont les composantes requièrent une infrastructure technique particulière.

DAÏMÕN met à la disposition des artistes des équipements de tournage et d’enregistrement, et des salles de montage audio et vidéo numérique. Une chambre noire permet des développements argentiques de grand format (1m32) à partir de négatifs pouvant aller jusqu’à 280 mm. Un service d’impression numérique (EPSON Stylus 9600 Pro) est également disponible.

Artiste résident
Offert aux artistes professionnels de l’extérieur de la région Ottawa-Gatineau, ce programme veut promouvoir des échanges féconds entre les artistes d’ici et d’ailleurs. Il s’adresse aux artistes en mi-carrière et établis ou qui ont cumulé plus de cinq années de pratique dans un champ de recherche spécifique.

Le Centre fournit, pour la réalisation de chacun des projets, un séjour de 4 à 6 semaines incluant l’hébergement, l’accès aux équipements du Centre et les services d’un technicien (60 heures). Un cachet de 1 500 $ est versé à l’artiste. Certaines indemnités de déplacement ainsi que des indemnités quotidiennes sont également payées par DAÏMÕN. Tous les autres frais concernant la production de ces projets doivent être assumés par les artistes. DAÏMÕN organise une soirée-rencontre avec le public où l’artiste présente son travail antérieur et actuel.

Recherche et création
Ce programme est offert aux artistes professionnels de la relève, en mi-carrière ou établis. DAÏMÕN sélectionne six artistes par année, dont trois parmi les candidats de la région Ottawa-Gatineau et trois parmi les candidats en provenance de l’extérieur de la région. Le Centre encourage les candidatures des communautés francophones excentrées.

DAÏMÕN fournit, pour la réalisation de chacun des projets, un encadrement technique et artistique, l’accès aux équipements du Centre pendant une durée de quatre (4) semaines et les services d’un technicien (50 heures). Certaines indemnités de déplacement ainsi que des indemnités quotidiennes sont également payées par DAÏMÕN pour les artistes de l’extérieur. Tous les autres frais concernant la production de ces projets doivent être assumés par les artistes.

Photographie argentique et impression numérique
Ce programme vise à mieux soutenir la création sur support papier en chambre noire et en impression numérique.

DAÏMÕN fournit, pour la réalisation de chacun des projets, un encadrement technique et artistique; l’accès aux équipements du Centre pour la réalisation des projets pendant une durée de trois (3) semaines et les services d’un technicien (15 heures). Certaines indemnités de déplacement ainsi que des indemnités quotidiennes sont également payées par DAÏMÕN pour les artistes de l’extérieur. Tous les autres frais concernant la production de ces projets doivent être assumés par les artistes. En photographie traditionnelle, les artistes doivent fournir leurs produits de développement et leurs papiers photographiques.

Soutien aux premières œuvres
DAÏMÕN maintient son soutien à la réalisation d’une première œuvre pour trois artistes de la région Ottawa-Gatineau. Les projets admissibles comportent la production d’une œuvre originale utilisant la vidéo, ou l’application de médias hybrides à des œuvres d’art.

Sont admissibles à ce programme, les jeunes artistes de la région Ottawa-Gatineau ayant une formation de base et voulant créer dans un contexte professionnel une première œuvre dans les champs de la pratique photographique, vidéographique ou des nouveaux médias. Les artistes professionnels de la région Ottawa-Gatineau ayant déjà une pratique artistique dans une autre discipline (peinture, sculpture, photographie, installation, etc.) et voulant développer une production en vidéo et/ou en nouveaux médias sont également admissibles.

DAÏMÕN fournit, pour la réalisation des projets un encadrement technique et artistique, l’accès aux équipements pendant une durée de trois (3) semaines et les services d’un technicien (30 heures). Tous les autres frais concernant la production de ces projets doivent être assumés par les artistes.

PRÉSENTATION DES DOSSIERS
Les artistes intéressés sont invités à prendre connaissance des conditions des programmes de création et à faire parvenir un dossier comprenant:

– une indication claire du choix du programme;
– un résumé du projet (5 lignes);
– un énoncé de la démarche artistique (1/2 page maximum);
– une description du projet (1 page maximum);
– une description des besoins techniques et un échéancier de production (1 page maximum);
– un curriculum vitæ (3 pages maximum);
– une documentation d’appui * accompagnée d’une liste descriptive;
– une enveloppe affranchie pour le retour du dossier.

* La documentation d’appui doit faire état de la production artistique et non seulement du projet à réaliser. La documentation d’appui peut inclure un maximum de 10 images (fichiers numériques, diapositives ou photographies), une bande VHS, un CD, un DVD (max. 5 min), une adresse URL ou une publication.

Pour les candidatures au programme Artiste résident, un maximum de 20 images (fichiers numériques, diapositives ou photographies), une bande VHS, un CD, un DVD (max. 10 min), une adresse URL ou une publication.

Pour avoir accès aux services et aux équipements du Centre, les artistes dont les projets auront été sélectionnés devront devenir membres actifs au coût de 75$.

L’Œil de Poisson

L’Œil de Poisson invite les artistes et commissaires à soumettre leur projet pour la programmation 2010-2011 au plus tard le 15 octobre 2009 – le sceau de la poste faisant foi.

Le centre reçoit également en tout temps des dossiers pour l’Entrée vidéo et tout autre projet de soirées multidisciplinaires, de commissariat et de création en atelier. Tous les artistes sélectionnés ont accès gratuitement à nos ateliers de production pour une période d’un mois précédant leur exposition.

Bien implanté dans sa région et sur la scène nationale, Caravansérail assiste la relève artistique depuis plus de 5 ans dans la production, la promotion et la diffusion des arts visuels au Québec. L’intérêt que nous manifestons envers les artistes professionnels de la relève nous rend sensible à l’émergence d’oeuvres novatrices, à des stratégies de diffusion inédites et à la résurgence de réflexions en adéquation avec notre époque.

Dans le cadre de sa programmation 2010-2011, le Centre d’artistes Caravansérail invite les artistes de la relève en arts visuels, ainsi que les commissaires en début de carrière, à soumettre leur dossier pour un projet d’exposition ou tout autre projet spécifique [performance, projet hors les murs…] pouvant s’inscrire dans le cadre de ses activités.

Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal lance son appel de commissaire invité pour la 12e édition de sa biennale internationale de photographie contemporaine qui se tiendra en septembre 2011

Depuis 1989, à tous les deux ans, Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal produit un événement culturel international, arrimé sur les enjeux contemporains reliés à la photographie. Avec ses expositions, sa publication et son colloque, la biennale sert de catalyseur aux artistes, aux spécialistes de l’image et au grand public. L’événement vise à promouvoir les diverses tendances de la photographie contemporaine auprès d’un large public en concrétisant des échanges internationaux entre les photographes, le public, les conservateurs, les commissaires, les médias et les collectionneurs. Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal travaille de concert avec une grande diversité de partenaires incluant des artistes, des musées, des galeries universitaires, des centres d’artistes pour présenter une série d’expositions solos réparties à travers la ville transformant ainsi Montréal en une vaste exposition de groupe, à la fois cohérente et stimulante, autour d’un concept phare.

Le commissaire invité pour l’édition de septembre 2011, devra proposer une thématique à la fois novatrice et audacieuse, propre à singulariser la biennale montréalaise sur la scène internationale tout en stimulant la réflexion et en rendant accessible au grand public des thèmes et des problématiques issues de l’art contemporain en général.

Le commissaire invité aura la responsabilité :

* de rechercher et proposer des oeuvres d’artistes locaux et internationaux qui seront présentées dans le cadre de l’événement;
* de fournir la documentation nécessaire à l’évaluation des projets proposés
* de rechercher et de sélectionner des auteurs de la publication;
* de rechercher et de sélectionner des conférenciers qui participeront à un colloque visant à faire connaître les enjeux de la thématique.
* de rédiger le texte principal de la publication;
* de rédiger des textes éditoriaux visant à promouvoir l’événement (pour le site Web, le programme officiel, les communiqués, demande de financement, etc.);
* de participer à la recherche de financement par la rédaction de textes;
* d’être porte-parole de la thématique et des contenus de la 12e édition du Mois de la Photo à Montréal.

Encadré par la direction et par l’équipe permanente, le commissaire invité devra oeuvrer en étroite collaboration avec l’équipe du Mois de la Photo à Montréal pour accomplir les

* tâches suivantes:
* rechercher et négocier des contrats d’artistes, d’auteurs et de conférenciers.
* rechercher et négocier des contrats avec les lieux d’exposition participants et les autres partenaires;
* concevoir et produire une publication;
* développer la signature visuelle de la 12e édition et les contenus des outils de communication et de promotion;
* élaborer des activités de médiation culturelle.

Sous la supervision du directeur général, le commissaire invité devra travailler en collaboration avec une petite équipe dynamique et tenir le conseil d’administration informé du développement des contenus, dans le respect des échéanciers et des budgets de production de la 12e édition. Le commissaire invité devra être disposé à voyager pendant la phase de recherche, entre février et décembre 2010, et être disponible à l’automne pour négocier avec les lieux d‘exposition de la ville de Montréal. Il devra également être pleinement disponible pour travailler en étroite collaboration avec l’équipe du MPM et être présent à nos bureaux lors de la dernière phase de production (de juin 2011 jusqu’au début de l’événement). Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal évaluera la faisabilité et les différents moyens de financer les déplacements et l’hébergement d’un commissaire vivant à l’extérieur du Canada.La durée du contrat est de novembre 2009 à décembre 2011. La Centrale vous invite à participer à la 8e édition de Boom-Chix-A-Boom qui se déroulera pendant la troisième vente de trottoir de la saison sur la Main, du jeudi 20 au dimanche 23 août 2009!!! En tant que centre d’artiste féministe, La Centrale est fière d’offrir, une fois de plus, une alternative aux activités commerciales du Boulevard Saint-Laurent.

Pour participer à cette 8e édition, voici les différentes possibilités qui vous sont offertes :

1. Location de tables
Comme à l’habitude, nous vous offrons la possibilité d’infiltrer la vente trottoir de façon abordable. Notre Boom Bazaar met une dizaine de tables de vente par jour à votre disposition devant la galerie. Chaque table mesure environ 3’X3′ et vous est offerte pour un maigre 15$ (10$ pour les membres) par jour. Les places sont limitées; réservez rapidement votre table pour profiter de ces journées ultra-achalandées sur la Main! Dans votre demande, n’oubliez pas de mentionner le type de marchandise que vous offrirez, le ou les jours qui vous intéressent ainsi que votre numéro de téléphone.

SNAP welcomes submissions from artists, collectives, and collaborations etc, practicing in all print and print-related mediums. SNAP’s Main Gallery Space is programmed through an annual call for submissions as well as through curated exhibitions.

The SNAP Gallery programs eight Main Gallery exhibitions every year. Programming is determined annually by jury from submissions.

SNAP Main Gallery Submission Requirements

Project proposals should consist of:

* 10 – 15 numbered high quality digital images on OSX Apple-Mac compatible disc (slides are not accepted)
* Corresponding image list indicating the artist’s name, title of work, media and date
* An artist statement which describes and contextualizes the work presented. (maximum 2 pages)
* C.V. (artist resume) (maximum 3 pages)
* A project proposal explaining the specifics of the proposed exhibition. (maximum 3 pages)
* 1 – 2 items of support materials as appropriate (DVD, Publications, Print Articles). These support items will not be returned.

Scientists are obsessed with answering profound and fundamental questions about the origins of the universe and how to increase the human lifespan, while others grapple with solving our complex environmental problems that eminently threaten our very survival. Regular Programming is created through submissions that seek the support of aceartinc’s facilities and services for public presentation. aceartinc is dedicated to cultural diversity in its programming and to this end encourages applications from contemporary artists and curators identifying as members of GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered), Aboriginal (status, non-status, Inuit and Metis) and all other culturally diverse communities. aceartinc encourages proposals from individuals, groups and collectives in all visual arts media.

Regular Programming submissions are solicited through a general annual national call with a deadline of August 1st.

The Selection Committee reviews submissions within the context of aceartinc’s mandate and goals and makes recommendations to the board within 4 weeks of the deadline. [The Selection Committee is comprised of the Programming Coordinator, 1-2 Board Members, and 2 Community Members.]

The Fifth Curator – International Curatorial Competition

The British Council is launching an innovative programme to find an international curator to select its final exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery.

Following on the heels of Michael Craig-Martin, Jeremy Deller, Nicholas Penny and Paula Rego, a fifth curator is to be selected through an imaginative competition for curators worldwide.

The Fifth Curator competition is a unique new opportunity for an aspiring curator to select an exhibition of works from the British Council Collection. We are looking for someone who is based permanently outside the UK, who believes they have the passion and knowledge to be a leading curator. The winning curator will be given unlimited access to the Collection, which includes over 8500 key works of British art and the resulting exhibition will be shown at the prestigious Whitechapel in the vibrant East end of London in April 2010.

The Fifth Curator exhibition will be the fifth and final exhibition in a series of five exhibitions showcasing the British Council Collection in the Whitechapel Gallery. Artist Michael Craig-Martin selected the first exhibition Passports – Great Early Buys from the British Council Collection, focusing on some of the most prescient acquisitions in the Collection’s long history.

‘My selection of works for this exhibition barely scratches the surface of the Collection. For every work I felt able to include there were half a dozen I had to leave out… This is a collection that contains hidden treasures, many of which I know will be included in subsequent exhibitions of this series.’ (Michael Craig-Martin)

The British Council Collection is widely regarded as one of the greatest collections of modern and contemporary British art in the world. It includes over 8500 works by artists living or working in Britain, and the majority of the works are shown in exhibitions around the world. The series of exhibitions at the Whitechapel Gallery marks a rare opportunity to view works from the Collection in the UK.

For The Fifth Curator exhibition, aspiring curators from outside the United Kingdom are invited to submit an exhibition proposal which features works drawn exclusively from the British Council Collection. We particularly encourage new views and fresh perspectives on the Collection, as these are vital to ongoing debates about British art within an international context.

In November 2009, six short-listed applicants will be invited to London to take part in a week of professional development with the Visual Arts Department of the British Council. During this week, applicants will be encouraged to refine their proposals with the advice, guidance and resources of the Visual Arts team and they will be given the opportunity to visit the Whitechapel gallery to view the proposed exhibition space and meet with the Whitechapel curatorial team. At the end of the week, the winning proposal will be selected by a panel of senior art world figures at a special presentation dinner.

The Fifth Curator competition forms part of the British Council’s ongoing commitment to promote the Collection to new audiences, both in the UK and worldwide and to engage aspiring curatorial talent with one of Britain’s finest collections of British Art.

VisArts at Rockville (an innovative art center in the Washington DC Metropolitan Region) is seeking works of art that use new media and technology to eliminate psychological or physical boundaries; and, challenge a gallery’s role as mediator between artworks and viewers. New media and technology have the power to eliminate conventional, artistic boundaries. Interactive art, for example, encourages viewers to complete the artwork by actively transforming it visually and conceptually. Artwork can be exhibited remotely, with only the concept (rather than the physical object) in a gallery. Likewise, a viewer may experience a work of art even if they are not in the gallery with the object. Works considered: Artwork with at least one component that uses an electrical and/or battery power source, and created in the past three years. CONCEPT

A show of performance works that never were realized because of practical, economical, institutional or personal reasons or censure in any way or any other reason – NOPERFORMANCE.

BASE

The majority of all the performances will never be realized depending on many different reasons. The world only knows about the presented performance works but not about the NOPERFORMANCES.

A NOPERFORMANCE could be a performance works that was never presented or realized because:

– it was not possible to fund

– was censored

– for practical reasons: not enough space, technical problems etc.

– for personal reasons

– or just did not have energy enough to make reality of the idea

Anything goes. Think creatively!

Not to forget the contradiction of that performance works never presented or realized will be shown in several countries.

STRUCTURE OF PRESENTATIONS

The show will be presented in a numbre of sites in Latin America during August 2009. The installation and presentation of the show in each site will have the same characters as a performance:

– limited in time: could be limited to 15 min or 1 hour or one evening or a day or two. Depending on each context.

– site specific: the presentation of the show will be adapted and changed according to each site, everything from gallery, culture centre, artist studios etc.

Well we don’t really have any funding but since Henrik is going to travel back to Sweden from the south of Latin America he is going to pass at least Asunción, several cities in Bolivia, Lima and Caracas anyway.

We will print one set of the exhibition and Henrik will bring it with him on his journey northward presentation the show in collaboration with galleries, art centres, other artists… on the way north.

RISK RIOT REJUVENATION

For over 30 years The Rhubarb Festival has offered Toronto artists a critic-free environment to experiment with new theatrical explorations. First produced by Buddies in 1979, Rhubarb is more than a festival; it is a commentary on theatre – on how we create it, on how we present it, and on how we experience it. Here we allow the artist and the idea to be the centre of attention. The trappings of traditional theatre are purged in favour of a stripped-down approach, where inspiration and invention are genesis. Rhubarb encourages established artists to take new risks and emerging artists to explore the medium of performance creation in a safe, inspired space.

Bergen Bybane Art Project Strømmen
Bybanen is a light-rail system under construction in the city of Bergen, Norway.
On behalf of the City of Bergen Public Art Commission, the Committee for Bergen Bybane Art Program invites Norwegian and international artists to express their interest in a closed competition for a water and/or light-based work. This project is supported by KORO (Public Art Norway) through its public space program.

In this project the Committee has chosen to emphasize its overriding vision and the prime motive for the construction of Bybanen; a vision prioritizing sustainable local and global development. This is the first project of an art program that will encompass both permanent and temporary art works along Bybanen’s route.

Project A1, Strømmen: The Committee envisions a water and/or light-based work. Water and light are intrinsically associated with the project’s theme; furthermore, they provide references both to Bergen’s historical connection to the sea and to the significance of light for our part of the world. Both elements evoke positive associations which will be experienced as invigorating in their own right. Bybanen’s station here lies at the northern bridgehead of Old Nygård Bridge. The art here will be seen and experienced by those waiting at this stop.

The Canadian Film Institute, working in partnership with the International Polar Year, is seeking entries for the International Polar Year Film Festival. The International Polar Year is an event with over 60 countries involved in an intense program of scientific research focused on the Arctic and Antarctic.

This special film festival will bring together an international selection of works exploring the issues and activities of the International Polar Year. Ranging from educational works (documentaries, industrial films) to fiction films, the Festival will celebrate the rich diversity of the polar region, as well as examine the many challenges it faces in the 21^st Century.

The Canadian Film Institute, committed to programming a dynamic and diverse selection of works related to the representation of the Arctic, welcomes submissions from all film and video practices, including science and research.

The IPY Film Festival will take place from September 28-30 in the Auditorium of Library and Archives Canada in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

The First White Water Gallery Annual National Juried Drawing Exhibition 2009

The White Water Gallery has been presenting contemporary art from across Canada for over 30 years. Expanding on this success, we are hosting our inaugural juried exhibition. In recent years drawing has redefined itself as one of the most open and adaptable forms of Contemporary art practice. Traditionally, drawing was limited to “work on paper”, but today, it encompasses an ever-expanding range of approaches and methods. White Water Gallery seeks works from across Canada which reconsiders traditional and contemporary approaches to drawing, as both an action and medium.

Submission Criteria
All work must be unframed
All work submitted must be original. No prints or facsimiles.
There are no size constraints for submissions.
Only Two submissions per artist will be accepted into the jurying process. Shipping and return shipping costs are at the artist’s expense. (Shipping with Canada Post express post tubes is an affordable method of shipping.) The gallery assumes no responsibility for the return of work that arrives without return postage.
All work must be clearly labelled with the artist’s name, title, date, and medium.

*Artists will be notified upon acceptance of their work. For work not accepted into the final selection, artwork will be returned promptly (providing return postage has been provided).

Entry Fee
An entry fee of $25 is required to cover the expenses directly related to presenting this exhibition. This fee is non-refundable and must be received prior to the submission deadline, Oct 5th 2009. Publication
A black and white catalogue will be produced documenting the exhibition and giving equal representation to each work accepted into the show. We will be photographing all pieces that are accepted into the exhibition for the exhibition catalogue. Artists’ Residency at NaREC

AV Festival, in partnership with Inspire Northumberland, seek to appoint an artist
in residence at NaREC, the centre of excellence for new and renewable energy
technologies in North East England, based in Blyth, Northumberland.

The residency will provide an opportunity for an artist to carry out new research
and share ideas in response to one or more areas of sustainable energy technolology
undertaken by NaREC, which are: Marine Renewables, Offshore Wind, Advanced
Photovoltaics, Low Carbon/Distributed energy and Electrical Networks. The fee for
the residency is £10,000.

The residency is open to any professional artist working within or outside the UK
and can be worked flexibly between September – February 2010 as part of AV Festival
10.

The artist will be invited to give a public presentation about the residency
as part of AV Festival 10 which has the theme of energy. The festival dates are
5 – 14 March 2010 and it will take place across Newcastle, Gateshead,
Middlesbrough and Sunderland.

The Festival will take place from the 26th-30th August 2009. The location is STATTBAD, an indoor swimming complex, erected in 1907 but which has been idle for the past eight years. We’ve been driven International Artist in Residence Program since we’ve established in 1998 as one of the pioneer and leading institution for Artist in Residence Program in Japan.
We’re pleased to announce that we just started the call for applications to trans_2009-2010; International Artist in Residence Support Program.
“trans_2009-2010 Residence Support Program” is carried out with the aim of supporting young artists’ experimental artistic activities, beyond the borders of art disciplines and nationalities. The artists will be carefully selected by the Selection Committee of the Residence Support Program of Akiyoshidai International Art Village. During the residency period, artists will create ideas and works in collaboration with AIAV curatorial staff. We strongly hope that resident artists will actively communicate with local people in Yamaguchi, tackling many kinds of projects. Hadassah-Brandeis Institute (HBI) Artist-in-Residency Program – 2010
Deadline: August 24, 2009

The HBI Artist-in-Residence Program provides artists the opportunity to be in residence at Brandeis University while working on a significant artistic project in the field of Jewish women’s and gender studies, and to produce an exhibit for the Kniznick Gallery at the Women’s Studies Research Center (WSRC) at Brandeis University. The residency will be 3 – 4 weeks in length, and will take place in February. The exhibit will immediately follow and be on view for a minimum of 8 weeks.

II Program structure
The accepted program recipient will receive a $750 weekly stipend, up to $3000, to support her/his work. In addition, recipient will have her/his own studio space at the Women’s Studies Research Center at Brandeis University and access to all available Brandeis University resources. The artist is responsible for food, travel, housing, and materials. A materials subsidy of $250 will be provided.

The Hadassah-Brandeis Institute’s role is:
to manage marketing and promotion of the show and related events,
to sponsor the costs associated with installation and de-installation of the show,
to subsidize cost of materials up to $250

The artist-in-residence is required
to be available/discuss their work/installation-in-progress with the public,
to give a public lecture/gallery talk
to lead a workshop and/or work collaboratively with a Brandeis class
to assist in development of accompanying materials

III Eligibility Requirements
There are no eligibility requirements. Applications (in English) from outside the United States are welcome.

IV Exhibit Criteria
We look for exhibitions that:
Are visually and artistically impressive and original
Are related to fresh ways of thinking about Jews and gender
Are international in nature
Ask important questions and provoke dialogue
Are related to research being produced and promoted by the HBI
Provide a context for education
Are appropriate in scale for the Kniznick Gallery Space
Include new work or previous work updated or adapted in a new way

Selection Process
The WSRC produces three to four shows every calendar year. One show/year is sponsored by the HBI and includes an artist residency. For the HBI show, we require the official application and proposal form. Proposal selection and decisions regarding exhibition content are made by the WSRC and HBI staff including Founding Director, Shula Reinharz, and Curator and Director of the Arts, Lisa Lynch. This process ensures that we are acting in line with our goals and our mission, and that we are showing art of a high caliber. It also ensures the feasibility and practicality of producing the show.

Proposals for the 2010 show are due on August 24, 2009. Final decisions will be made by October 1, 2009.

The Reynolds-Alberta Museum in Wetaskiwin, Alberta highlights the mechanical history of Transportation, Aviation, Agriculture and Industry in Alberta. AIR Taipei consists of two sites, Taipei Artists Village (TAV) and Grass Mountain Artist Village (GAV). Its mission is to catalyze interaction between contemporary artists, the local community and the wider public and has been serving as a springboard for artists from the global as well as local artists since the establishment of TAV in 2001 which locates in the central of Taipei City. Commissioned by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Taipei City Government, in 2007 AIR Taipei undertook the management of GAV in Yangming Mountain which consists of 4 cottages once being used as the dormitory for the attendant staff of former presidency Chiang Kai-shek. AIR Taipei invites artists or curators (individuals or groups) from all levels of experience to submit exhibition proposals for realization in its gallery spaces, Barry Room of TAV and 92 Art Center of GAV, in 2010.

Admission to 2010 AIR Taipei Exhibition Program is based on review of applications by the AIR Taipei Admission Committee. Proposals must be original and conceived for AIR Taipei space i.e. may not have been realized in any other venue. Proposed exhibitions can be solo, two-person, or group and are open to all visual arts media. Proposals from 3 categories are requested in 2010:

1. Projects from Individual Artists or Teams, including artists, curators or researchers’ with a professional background in any media or discipline. This also includes artists who work/collaborate across more than one discipline.
2. Projects from Creative Industry,including designers, researchers or administrators of fashion, industrial/product design, art market, cultural heritage, publishing and cultural tourism etc.

The Award is intended to allow the artist to undertake a period of independent research or other activities with the capacity to advance their artistic and professional practice at a key moment in the artist’s career.

The winner of the RBC Award for Glass receives $7,000. The selection panel is comprised of experienced contemporary glass artists and curators. This jury will choose a finalist list and the winner will be announced at a gala event on September 17, 2009. This award will be presented and announced at the same time as the winner for the Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics. “Because the Night” references Patti Smith’s seminal work; the exhibition will include work that reflects the multiple facets of human behavior in the night. Mayhem, sex, romance, battles and war activities, dreams, and abstract works that evoke the poetics of nighttime. The exhibition will open October 19, 2009 at the Guggenheim Gallery at Chapman College, in California.

“Becasue the Night” is curated by Sabina Ott, with a video screening program by LiveBox. The objective of this project is to get 1000 answers, from anyone interested in participating, which will be written in every of the 600 paintings that compose a bigger painting 79” x 63”. The answers also will be published in a website created especially for RX1000. The small paintings- that compose the major painting -are joined together through threads representing a net. Devices connected to circuits will be installed on the smaller paintings causing the vibratory movement of the “net-painting”.

People will be able to remotely modify the painting’s vibrations through Internet.

Nets-Circuits-Connections

This work investigates the relation between art-work and nets.

I am interested in the displacement of the new digital technologies to the analogous physical dimension, and in that matter this work pretends to include diverse significant elements with their roots in my experience with creation the last 20 years.

The creative excercise in nets of mail art, the participation of columnists and readers of Escáner Cultural, the connections through telepresence and net art have offered me the possibility to understand the value of comunication as a fundamental component for the development of arts, comunication that is necessary to define the word RESISTANCE through diverse sights.

The action of making vibrate different areas of the distance-paintings is an element which pretends to demonstrate the participation of the individual in a community. The invitation to define what is resistance? acts as an inclusion element. The painting represents the product of the NETWORK, which would not be possible without the collective cooperation. To include the contribution of “others” adds value to the artistic product.

In 2008 we wondered: the relationship between real estate prices and actual money, if the crowds at the Armory were smaller than the year before, the various costs of a fossil fuel driven culture, if our gallery could exist without being on Facebook and if we even needed to leave our homes (or computers for that matter).

The AC Institute seeks works to exhibit for its upcoming 2009/2010 season. Our call is not meant as a ‘return to the Real’ rather, like Žižek, we continue in an exploration of ‘reality’―the things, the conditions, the concepts, the perceptions, the implications and the relationships and/or dialogues between them. Our focus is on the ephemeral (site-specific works, installation, sound video, etc) though any media/medium will be considered so long as they suit our various gallery spaces.

AC’s mission is to advance the understanding of art through investigation, research and education. It is a lab and forum for experimentation and critical discussion. We support and develop projects that explore a performative exchange across visual, verbal and experiential disciplines and encourage critical writing that challenges conventional expectations of meaning and objectivity as well as the boundaries between the rational and subjective. Art Currents is a non-profit 501(c)3 and is under the Direction of Holly Crawford.

September 2008 marks the date in which the AC Institute took on a physical location, the AC [Direct] I and II spaces and the AC [Chapel] space in Chelsea. In its inaugural season the AC has: had 10 openings, one per month, which represents 25 individual shows (approximately 2-4 solo shows per exhibition); offered 5 live performance special events; participated in the 2009 Armory show with 2 VIP projects; collaborated with over 50 artists; and worked with various cultural organizations towards promoting art-based projects, such as Rhizome, Harvestworks and Materials for the Arts. Press for the inaugural year include those in ArtCal/ArtCat, Chelsea Now, NY ArtBeat and various other online reviews. ARchiTecture Residency: DESIGN-BUILD-AND-LIVE IN PROJECT, Ghana

Duration: 3 to 24 months according to project scope and nature of funding.
Organizing Institution: FOTA Foundation, a registered NGO in Ghana (FOTA is an acronym for “focus on the arts”)

DESCRIPTION
This is a project-based residency opportunity for creative persons in earth architecture, earth art/ land art/ earthworks, engineering, and others who can design-and-build dwellings or non-dwellings out of earth and other materials from the environment.

Working individually or in teams, the participant in the ARchiTecture (art+architecture) Residency Project will live in the village next to our 800-acre Artist Village in development at Maabang in the Ashanti Region of Ghana until the participant completes the project on the 800 acreage and can move in. Project is open to traditional and modern construction methods, and experimental approaches that are known to work. Submissions in methods such as adobe, cob, compressed earth, rammed earth, ceramic house, poured/cast earth, papercrete, earthbag, straw-bale, stackwall, earth-shelter, earthship, and other best practices may therefore be in order. Integration of rainwater harvesting, solar and wind energy generation system are indispensable but not obligatory. The lot size and shape are open; you could build it on 120×120 ft plot, an acre, or more. The only criteria that should be met are: (1) Using earth/ other materials from the environment in part or in whole; (2) Creating a durable non-dwelling or a dwelling of at least three-bed rooms ready to move in; and (3) production budget of between €1,000 to €5,000 Euros. Priority may be given to those who have funding or can secure part-funding to complete their conceived project.

For Architecture, in the framework of Fathy (2000), the contemporary participant specialist will be assigned a local master builder and two assistants, or as relative to the proposed process and structure. In sum, we will collaborate with the international participant to procure her/him the per diem and accommodation, and assistance from local specialists and interns in constructing the structures in anticipation that crosscultural interchange and growth in knowledge and skills will be commonplace. International participants will be responsible for sourcing own return air ticket, insurance, and other personal costs. One of our supporting area institutions is the School of Fine
Art, College of Arts and Social Sciences, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) at Kumasi; so, academic presentations and relevant others are possible.

Individuals or teams wishing to participate in the project should submit formal application to the Artistic Committee; the application should include your work plan, CV/resume, and a sample of completed works or web site to: africoae [arobas] gmail [point] com. The work plan should include at least 3 sketches of the floor plan/ sections/ elevations, budget, and a description of the method/materials, participants, time estimates, etc required to complete your proposed project.

CONCEPTUAL BASIS
The art+architecture project takes in the theoretical frame of the book, Architecture for the Poor: An Experiment in Rural Egypt by a known Egyptian architect, Hassan Fathy. In it, he puts forward that an informed person can, in fact, self-build durable, aesthetic and highly functional buildings without using expensive materials. Along these lines, we are developing a model artist village on some 800 acres in Maabang in the Ahafo Ano North District of the Ashanti Region of Ghana for replication in other parts of Africa. For the locals, it will mean a resolution to the age-old problem for people of artistry- painters, sculptors, actors, dancers, musicians, designers, and others who require low-cost and expanse of space in which to live and work; and for persons in the arts from around the world, it will be a contact point for artist-in-residence for community-based arts projects, cross-cultural conferences and environmental retreats. Thus, we will next add studios, and a multipurpose complex for conferences and community-based arts mission to these residential cottages, as would be road construction to link parts of the village.

We are equally open to some alternative Housing Development Models that work. One example is the condominium program by which International NGOs with similar goals as ours, can design-and-build their structure at own costs and pay development due of €100 per room/per year, as the grounds are owned by FOTA Foundation. If the local artist/ architect group footed all cost, the group would need to pay development due of 50 GH¢ per room/per year, as the grounds belong to our Foundation. However, we are strict that the completed structure be used solely for the purpose proposed.

LOCATION
Maabang is a rural community in the Ahafo-Ano North District in the north-western part of Ashanti Region. The area is located between latitude 6° 47’N and 7 02’N and longitude 2° 26’W and 2° 04’W. The District Hospital at Tepa is the major health facility around the Maabang Traditional Area; there are four smaller health service stations. Like much of Ghana, few of the roads are tarred. The project acreage is along the main road, Tepa-Goaso Road. About 85% of the working population entails farmers in cassava, yam, maize, and plantain but chiefly in cocoa. There, in the town, is a cocoa research center. Timber is one of the many traditional commodities, as the region is mostly of tropical rainforest. Maabang is in the deciduous savannah transition zone. The mean monthly temperature ranges from 26°C (in August) to 30°C (in March). Relative humidity is generally high, ranging between 75-80 percent in the Rainy season and 70-72 percent in the dry season. The mean annual rainfall is between 125 cm and 180cm. Nationwide, there are two main seasons, the raining season and dry season. The raining season is from approximately April to October followed by the dry season, which starts in December with the Hamattan wind blowing from the Saharan Desert and ends in March
each year.

The Hintonburg Community Association Arts Committee, Councillor Christine Leadman and Bell Canada have collaborated, to offer a unique opportunity to artists to enhance their neighborhood. In an attempt to discourage the repeated graffiti tagging of the Bell Canada utility boxes, a pilot project has been launched seeking artists to paint murals on a select number of boxes. Similar projects have proven successful in other Canadian cities such as Edmonton, Toronto and Halifax.

For this pilot, 6 local Bell Canada utility boxes have been chosen. These boxes are in the following prominent locations:
