DATE LIMITE /
1ER OCTOBRE 2022

Calling All Artists: The Labour Arts Catalyst 2nd Edition is Live!
Mayworks Festival of Working People & the Arts’ Labour Arts Catalyst pairs artists with labour, social or environmental organizations in a collaborative art-making process. This initiative aligns with the vision of Mayworks “to incite the creation and production of art that engages diverse artists and workers in the advancement of cultural, economic and social justice.”
This year, Mayworks is collaborating with Labour Against the Arms Trade, Asian Canadian Labour Alliance and Rising Tide Toronto.
Deadline to apply: July 29th, 11:59PM
We invite submissions from artists working in all disciplines: visual art, film and video, digital media, music, dance, theatre, performance, installation and beyond. Artists will select the organization with whom they wish to work during the submission process, selecting from. Mayworks staff will facilitate initial meetings with the labour organization. Artists are then responsible for following up with their labour organization to continue research. Mayworks staff will be on hand to facilitate this if need be. Artists will create an artwork inspired and or informed by their selected labour organization. The goal is to present the work at the Mayworks Festival in May 2023.
Revolution Must Mean Life (2022) by Maysam Ghani
Fees
Each of the three selected artists will receive $2,500 toward the creation of their artwork. If the artwork is presented during the Mayworks Festival 2023, artists will receive an additional exhibition fee of $800.
Costs
Artists are expected to cover the expense of creating their artwork for the Mayworks Festival in 2023. Mayworks will apply for funding to help artists offset these costs, but this funding is not guaranteed.
To apply
To apply, please complete the application form, and attach the requested samples of your work here.
For more information about the 2nd edition of the Labour Arts Catalyst, please visit mayworks.ca/labourartscatalyst-2022
Mayworks acknowledges we live in a society rooted in oppression and inequalities; that structural injustice and unconscious prejudice influence our experiences; and the importance of incorporating the knowledge and guidance from oppressed people’s experience within the organization. We encourage applicants from systematically marginalized groups to apply.

In 2021 Copenhagen Contemporary was awarded the biggest Scandinavian art prize, the Bikuben Foundation’s Vision Exhibition Award, for the winning project Yet, It Moves!—a visionary research project and public art exhibition in Copenhagen that investigate the interconnected movements across scales, from the micro—to the macrocosmos.
In connection with Yet, It Moves!, CC now launches an open call for artists, architects, designers, curators, landscape architects or others who are in any way professionally engaged in art or architecture in the public space to send us proposals for two kinds of contributions.
With this call we open the project and its implementation to artists whose research has investigated or is currently exploring themes related to the interface between art and science like the ones we are keen to research in Yet, It Moves!
You can find all the information on the Open Call here.
About Yet, It Moves!
The project is realized in collaboration with four scientific research partners: DARK at the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen, Arts at CERN in Geneva, The Interacting Minds Centre at Aarhus University, and the Program in Performance Studies and ModLab (Digital Humanities Laboratory) University of California, Davis.
The project’s groundbreaking vision, its course and artistic product consist in bringing the overlapping spheres of interest between artists and scientists into play. Thus initiating new research by exchanging different perspectives and exploring paths that combine the different methods and perspectives. As a result Yet, It Moves! will unfold through a series of decentralized art installations shown at different locations in Copenhagen from May to October 2023, creating opportunities for people to encounter contemporary art in new ways as the art will live in the city interacting with people on a daily base.
A city on the move
There are millions of movements taking place simultaneously in the cosmos: from the explosion of Supernovae to the constant expansion of our universe, the incessant movement of neutrinos and nuclear fusion. The universe is filled with unstoppable movement from the macro to the micro level. The human brain can barely grasp them, but these movements exist no matter whether we acknowledge them or not. With this open call we want to compare the city to a microcosmos where many different movements and lives co-exist simultaneously, going in many different directions. This is something people may not reflect upon on a daily basis, but something that this project would like to showcase letting it be reflected and imprinted on the city.
The proposals will be accepted from July 1-September 1, 2022.
Deadline for submission: September 1, 2022, at midnight.
Proposals should be be sent through this link.

Creative AI Artist Residency at Inspace Gallery
Design Informatics, University of Edinburgh
Deadline: 01 August 2022 at 17:00
Calling all creatives with an interest in developing new ideas and pushing boundaries with our new Artist in Residence programme for Inspace.
For our second artist in residence programme we have partnered with Creative Informatics, focusing on the theme of Creative AI and we are looking for artists (including designers, architects, musicians, dancers, writers, curators etc.) to explore this theme through a short residency programme between September 2022 and April 2023.
Creative AI is a relatively open brief and a chance for practitioners to try out new ideas and experiment. You do not need to have a digital background or have worked with data before but we would like ideas of how you might explore working with technology in new ways. We welcome applications which also critique and question developments in AI and machine learning too.
We are looking for engaging data driven works that enable people to understand developments in AI or to think about it in new ways, public engagement is a key aim for the outcomes for the programme. We are aligning with the schedule for the Edinburgh Science Festival 2023 but please note this is not guaranteed but we will apply to take part alongside other Design Informatics activities.
This residency has a limited budget and a tight timeframe. We are not concerned with getting finished pieces – we are interested in work that helps people to think differently, even if it is in an unpolished form. Works that are prototypes that go on to further development are completely acceptable and we would be happy to assist with this process. We would also encourage people with diverse backgrounds to apply.
The successful artist will be awarded a budget of £4,000 which is to include production costs and will be given a space in the Design Informatics studio. Applications are open now until the 1 August 2022.
Location: Edinburgh City
For further information, please contact designinformatics [arobas] ed [point] ac [point] uk (Jane Macdonald), or visit https://inspace.ed.ac.uk
The deadline is Monday 01 August 2022 at 17:00.

CALL FOR ARTIST: The New Voices Community Arts Residency
The New Voices Community Arts Residency is now accepting applications from equity- seeking populations to conduct a three-month community-centered artist residency at the Arts Council Windsor Region (ACWR), located in the Walkerville neighbourhood of Windsor, Ontario. The residency offers artists the time to connect with the local community, conduct research, and develop a project that responds directly to the specificity of the Walkerville neighbourhood and its surrounding districts.
The New Voices Community Arts Residency is an opportunity to engage with the community through projects, programming and research to broach new territories and engage with the local community. The goal of the residency is to make space for artists to explore and experiment with new ideas and approaches within the realm of community engaged art practices.
For more history on the “New Voices” program, which works in conjunction with this residency, please visit acwr.net/new-voices
What does the residency offer?
Time: The residency is three months, running from Sep. 01 – Nov. 30, 2022.
The nature of this residency will unfold as one month for research, one month for execution of the community project, and one month for exhibition/sharing of the results.
Space: The artist will be given access to office space with computer facilities, internet access, printing, and access to the gallery space to develop and conduct community gatherings and meetings (with evolving COVID guidelines, restrictions or requirements as needed). The selected artist will also have access to the New Voices billboard as an accompanying component to their project and research in the final month of their residency.
Fees: The artist will receive a monthly fee of $1,800 for the duration of the 3-month residency ($5,400 total), a production budget of $3,500 (including cost of insurance) and the technical support throughout the residency from the Project Coordinator who will also serve as a liaison between the artist in residence and the community. Travel expenses up to $600 are covered by the residency. An apartment in Walkerville is available for rent for the duration of the residency for $800/month (all utilities included). The artist is responsible for the monthly rental payments.
Expectations: It is expected that the artist will develop a community-oriented art project as a result of their research conducted during the residency. To socialize the project, the artist will give one public talk (or equivalent) during their time as the artist in residence. There is also an expectation for the artist to develop a unique proposal for the New Voices billboard space based on their research and findings. We do not hold expectations for the artist to be physically present within Windsor and the Walkerville community for the entirety of the residency, however as part of the application process we will be asking how much time the artist expects to be able to do so. In consideration for the length of time involved in this residency, we need to gauge expectations for a physical presence and/or virtual in equal weight to the rest of the application.
Application Process
To apply, please fill out and submit the following form no later than Sunday, August 7th, 2022.
Applications are open to early-, mid- and late-career artists of all disciplines. We strongly encourage applications from underrepresented and marginalized voices, including new generation artists, newcomer artists, artists of colour, Indigenous artists, artists with disabilities, francophone artists, and 2SLGBTQ+ communities. We welcome sound, visual, dance, theater, performance and literary artists to apply. If you are an artist that transcends the categories listed, we are very interested in receiving your application as well.
Selection Process
The artist in residence will be selected by a jury composed of Hiba Abdallah (current New Voices artist in residence) and ACWR staff Kaitlyn Karns, Ostoro Petahtegoose and Alejandro Tamayo. Results will be announced on Friday, August 12.
If you have any questions, please reach out to info [arobas] acwr [point] net with the subject line “New Voices Residency”.
Support for the creation of the New Voices Community Arts Residency is provided by a grant received from the My Main Street Community Activator program offered by the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) and delivered by the Canadian Urban Institute.

About the Kunstkommission Düsseldorf
Art in architecture resp. public art is formative, creates distinctive places, promotes identification in neighbourhoods and is an essential component of modern urban culture and urban development.
For this reason, the Kunstkommission Düsseldorf in Northrhine-Westphalia, Germany was founded 2018. Since then, a panel of experts consisting of artists, art scholars, architects, urban planners and politicians has been advising the local political bodies on possible projects, artistic formats, locations of building projects, the type of selection process, the artists to be invited and finally the artistic ideas to be realised. The aim is to enable a manifold of artistic expressions in public space, often in connection with new building projects. In addition, the Kunstkommission initiates its own projects and formats in order to sharpen the view of art in public space and to strengthen the city’s profile. The members of the Kunstkommission, which is supported in its work by an own agency, are elected every three years.

esse art + opinion
Appel de textes | Call For papers
No. 107 : Famille
